The 6-foot-9 Alexander revealed his decision Friday during a ceremony at his school that was televised by ESPNU. He chose the Jayhawks over Illinois, DePaul and Memphis and teased the Fighting Illini during his announcement.

He said, “After careful consideration, I have decided to continue my education at the University of …” – he then paused to pick up an Illinois cap and put it back down before grabbing a Kansas – before finishing, “Kansas.”

Alexander led Curie to the Illinois Class 4A sectional semifinal before losing to Whitney Young and star center Jahlil Okafor, who verbally committed to Duke moments before Alexander’s announcement.

His coach at Junction City High School Bob Laster said Millsap went to a national tournament in Colorado. “And while he was wrestling in the finals he ended up breaking his lower leg. His doctor right now is predicting that he’ll be out for 6 to 8 weeks.”

That is not a season ending injury for Millsap, who is a senior at Junction City High School, and is projected to wrestle in the 152 pound weight class this season.

Practice for the high school season begins Monday.  The season runs through late February.

Williams joins Chiefs, hopes to play vs Denver

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Wide receiver Kyle Williams says that he hopes to be able to contribute to the Kansas City Chiefs in Denver this weekend, even though he only joined the team on Wednesday.chiefs helmet

Williams was claimed off waivers from the San Francisco 49ers a day earlier, and didn’t arrive in Kansas City until after midnight. He spent his first day in the practice facility trying to get up to speed in time for Sunday night’s showdown against the Broncos.

It’s possible that he’ll be able to play on special teams, but Chiefs offensive coordinator Doug Pederson said it would be unfair to expect Williams to contribute on that side of the ball.

Williams said he’s willing to help out where the Chiefs need him.

Foster Leads Wildcats to First Win of Season

The Kansas State Wildcats picked up their first win of the season Wednesday night 71-63 over Oral Roberts.

The Wildcats got off to a sluggish start finding themselves behind 16-4 with 11:00 minutes to play in KSU BBALL ONEthe first half. That’s when Freshman Marcus Foster turned up the heat and led the Wildcats on a solo 10-1 run to get back within three.

“He got a layup down, a 3-pointer down, and then he got going,” Head Coach Bruce Weber said following the game. “He is a good player and there is no doubt about it.”

Weber said that they’re going to need Foster to score this season, “Obviously without Rodney McGruder and some of the other guys from last year, he is going to have to pick up the pace and help us score the basketball.”

WEBERFoster finished the game with a team leading 25 points and added three assists. The last time a freshman scored 25 points in a game was Michael Beasley vs. Texas A&M on March 14th, 2008 in the Big XII Tournament at the Sprint Center.

K-State will next host Long Beach State on Sunday before heading to Puerto Rico for the Puerto Rico Tip-Off Tournament on Monday.

K-State Could Earn Bowl Eligibility Saturday Against TCU

The Kansas State Wildcats are one game away from being bowl-eligible and could pick up that eligibility Saturday at home against TCU.

With a win Saturday the Wildcats would become bowl-eligible for the 15th time SNYDERunder head coach Bill Snyder.

During his weekly press conference Tuesday, Snyder said that becoming bowl eligible would be a positive thing at this point in time,”I think all of our players are interested in that. We do not spend a great deal of time talking about it, but you have to realize too that there is an equal amount of motivation on the other side because TCU is going through the exact same thing.”

The Horned Frogs are 4-6 and must pick up wins in their final two games, Saturday in Manhattan and November 30th against Baylor, to become bowl eligible.

Jonathan Truman, Junior Linebacker, said that the becoming bowl eligible is in the back of the teams mind.”Obviously it is there, but our focus is on TCU this week and that is what we plan to keep our minds on.”

Dante Barnett, Sophomore Defensive Back, said that the team doesn’t really look at the game as important towards getting the bowl eligibility out of the way Saturday. “We just look at it as another game that we can go out there and win. We will worry about the bowl game when that time comes. It would not really be a relief. We still look back at a couple of those losses, but winning that game would show that we have improved since those losses and have gotten better each week.”

Saturdays game is scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. kick off at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.

Mueller Defensive Player of the Week

Coming off a three-sack performance in Kansas State’s 49-26 win over Texas Tech defensive end Ryan Mueller has earned his second-consecutive Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honor, the conference office announced Monday.football clip art

Mueller tied for second in school history with his three sacks against the Red Raiders, which were the most in a Big 12 game since Oklahoma’s Frank Alexander had 4.5 against Texas in 2011. Mueller is now tied for sixth in school history in sacks as he needs just one more to tie the K-State single season record.
