The Junction City Lady Jay volleyball team hosted a triangular Tuesday night at the senior high school.
Junction City defeated Wamego 25-20, 25-16 and lost to Manhattan 22-25 and 20-25.
Junction City High School senior Madison Roether finished 6th in the Class 6A Girls State Golf Tournament on Monday.
Coach Tim Hickert said Roether shot a round of 83, six strokes out of first place in the competition at the Terradyne Country Club golf course in Andover. Hickert said putting was the strength of Roether’s game on Monday. “She made a whole bunch of four and five-footers. We saw some four-putts, five putts, even a six-putt. It was windy, tough greens, and she just continually made putts over and over again.”
Mia Toukach of Gardner Edgerton finished first in the individual competition with a round of 77. Macie Myers of Manhattan finished fifth with an 81.
In the team competition Shawnee Mission East captured the title with a total low score of 341. They were followed by Washburn Rural with a score of 363, Blue Valley West 373, and Manhattan was fourth at 374. Roether was the only golfer in the tournament for Junction City.
The strong end of the year run by the Junction City Lady Jay doubles team of Ally McKenzie and Danielle Shane came to an end Friday at the 6A State Championships in Olathe, KS.
The Lady Jays lost their first match against Colleen Freeman and Lexi Drummond from Shawnee Mission Northwest and then were knocked out of the consolation bracket by Lizzy Meizenbach and Mallory Novicoff from Blue Valley HS later in the day. Both teams that defeated the Lady Jays team went on to win medals.

The Junction City Cross-Country team competed in the Centennial League meet at Felker Park in Topeka, KS on Saturday 17. Additionally, the following team members earned All –League Honors. This year the top 7 = 1st team, 8-15 place = 2nd team and 16-21 are considered honorable mention.

The Junction City Lady Jay volleyball team went 3-3 in a tournament in Emporia on Saturday, to finish sixth.
Junction City defeated Pittsburg 25-21, 25-22, Olathe Metro Academy 25-16, 25-18, lost to Lawrence Free State 22-25, 25-19, 19-25, lost to Seaman 11-25, 19-25, defeated Bonner Springs 14-25, 25-22, 25-20, and lost to Pittsburg 18-25, 20-25.
Junction City is 19-16 on the season. The Lady Jays will host a triangular on Tuesday.

The Junction City Blue Jays shut out Wichita Southeast 64-0 in high school football at Al Simpler Stadium Friday night.
The Blue Jays ( 7-0, 1-0 District ) scored early and often in the game, with senior running back Raye Wilson running into the end zone on the first Blue Jay possession on offense in the game from 31-yards out, and then adding two more rushing touchdowns in the first half. Jovan Baldwin was on the receiving end of a touchdown pass play from quarterback Ryan Hennington on the second Junction City possession in the first half, and caught another pass for an 11-yard touchdown in the third quarter.
Other touchdowns scored by the Blue Jays included a 37-yard pass from Henington to Bronson Hill, 20-yard pass from Henington to Johnnie Jones, an 11-yard run by Marcus Walker, and a 20-yard run by Baylor Wilkey. Wayne Shirley also kicked a 38-yard field goal and five extra points in the win.
Blue Jay coach Randall Zimmerman felt good about the Junction City performance. “They just played great defensively, got good field position offensively, and were able to take advantage of it. Just a nice night.”
Junction City finished the game with 563 yards of total offense compared to 111 for Wichita Southeast ( 0-7, 0-1 District ). The Blue Jays recovered two fumbles by the Golden Buffaloes, and intercepted four Wichita Southeast passes.
Junction City continues district play next week when they travel to Wichita to play the Wichita East Blue Aces. Wichita Southeast will play Wichita North next Friday.

Junction City High School will host its 10th annual Tribute to the Troops night Friday during the home football game against Wichita Southeast.
The 97th MP Battalion will kick off the game by leading the Blue Jay
Football team onto the field.
A special halftime presentation will be given by the JCHS Marching Band and the 97th MP Battalion. Soldiers from the 97th will also be doing a push up for every point scored by the Blue Jays.
Admission is $5 for adults, $4 with a Military ID, and $3 for students K-8, High School Students are free with ID.
Pregame will begin at 6:40 pm and will include a Marching Band tribute to Military Soldiers and Veterans. The game will kickoff at 7 pm from Al Simpler Stadium.
The End Zone meal will be provided by the JCHS Booster Club and will be hamburger or hot dog, chips and a drink for $5 or $4 for Military.
The Junction City Blue Jay football team, 6-0, is preparing to begin district play Friday night at Al Simpler Stadium.
Junction City will host the Wichita Southeast Golden Buffaloes, 0-6, in a 7 p.m. kickoff on Friday. But the games the next three weeks will determine who advances to postseason play.
After Southeast the Blue Jays will travel to Wichita to play the Wichita East Blue Aces, and then host the Wichita North to end district play. The top two teams from the district will advance into Class 6A postseason competition.
Madison Roether of Junction City High School qualified for the Class 6A Girls State Golf Tournament. Roether finished fourth in the 6A Regional Tournament on Monday at Clapp Golf Course in Wichita.
Roether shot a round of 79. Rachel Stous of Topeka High finished first with a 73.
Junction City finished fifth in team competition at regional with a score of 491, but only the top three teams advance to state. Washburn Rural won the team title with a score of 325 and Manhattan was second at 375. Roether will participate in the individual competition at state.
For Junction City Sierra Snyder shot a 133, Trinity Wiesler 139, and Melina Melendez 140 at regional.
The 6A State Golf Tournament is next Monday, Oct. 19 at Terradyne Golf Course just outside of Andover.
Ally McKenzie and Danielle Shane of Junction City High School qualified for the 6A State Tennis meet by finishing 3rd place in their regional Saturday in Topeka.
They went 3-1 on the day, defeating the team of Speer and Shuler from Wichita North in the first round, Wagaman and Taylor the 3rd seed from Washburn Rural in the second round and then the 4th seeded team of Opskar and Mahoney from Derby in the 3rd place match. The only loss they suffered was in the semifinals against the eventual runner up and second seeded Hughes and Smith from Derby.
Other Lady Jays competing in the regional meet were the doubles team of Abby Khoury and Jordan Dombrowski, and the singles were represented by Nea Misa and Abigail Weisler. Each suffered first round losses to eliminate them from the tournament. Derby took the team title, followed by runner up Washburn Rural and third place Manhattan. The state tournament will be Friday and Saturday, October 16-17th, in Olathe, KS.
