Two Lady Jays Qualify for State Tennis

BlueJay-ENHANCEDAlly McKenzie and Danielle Shane of Junction City High School qualified for the 6A State Tennis meet by finishing 3rd place in their regional Saturday in Topeka.

They went 3-1 on the day, defeating  the team of Speer and Shuler from Wichita North in the first round, Wagaman and Taylor the 3rd seed from Washburn Rural in the second round and then the 4th seeded team of Opskar and Mahoney from Derby in the 3rd place match.  The only loss they suffered was in the semifinals against the eventual runner up and second seeded Hughes and Smith from Derby.

Other Lady Jays competing in the regional meet were the doubles team of Abby Khoury and Jordan Dombrowski, and the singles were represented by Nea Misa and Abigail Weisler.  Each suffered first round losses to eliminate them from the tournament.  Derby took the team title, followed by runner up Washburn Rural and third place Manhattan.  The state tournament will be Friday and Saturday, October 16-17th, in Olathe, KS.
