K-State Remains No. 11 in Polls

The Kansas State Wildcats remained in the No. 11 spot in the Associated Press and Amwaywildcat college football polls this week.

The Wildcats, 6-1, defeated Texas 23-0 on Saturday.

Mississippi State is ranked first followed by Florida State, Alabama, Auburn, and Oregon. TCU of the Big 12 is ranked tenth, Baylor 12th, Kansas State 11th, and Oklahoma 20th.

Giants Win Game Five of the World Series

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – Madison Bumgarner smothered the Kansas City Royals for the second kcr twotime in a week, pitching a four-hitter that led the San Francisco Giants to a 5-0 victory Sunday night and a 3-2 World Series lead.

Bumgarner struck out eight and walked none in improving to 4-0 in four World Series starts. He has allowed one run in 31 Series innings, an astonishing 0.29 ERA.

Brandon Crawford drove in three runs and Juan Perez hit a two-run double for the Giants, seeking to become only the second NL team to win three titles in a five-year span.

James Shields lost to Bumgarner for the second time, allowing eight hits and two runs in six innings.

In the 41 previous instances the World Series was 2-2 in the best-of-seven format, the Game 5 winner has taken the title 27 times. After a day off, the Series resumes Tuesday night at Kansas City’s Kauffman Stadium. In a rematch of Game 2 starters, Jordano Ventura pitches for the Royals and Jake Peavy for the Giants.

K-State Fans Encouraged to Pre-Order Bowl Tickets

Following Kansas State’s 23-0 win over Texas on Saturday, the Wildcats have become bowl k-state footballeligible.

Fans are encouraged to make plans now for the Wildcat’s postseason destination by pre-ordering tickets to any of the Big 12 tie-in bowl matchups.

K-State’s potential destination will not be known until December, but officials note that pre-ordering tickets through the K-State ticket office helps ensure the best possible spot for the Cats. The Big 12 Conference has a new lineup for 2014, which includes the College Football Playoff, Valero Alamo Bowl, Russell Athletic Bowl, AdvoCare Texas Bowl, AutoZone Liberty Bowl, and Cactus Bowl.

Season ticket holders, Ahearn Fund members, K-State Alumni and all Wildcat fans can pre-order bowl tickets online at k-statesports.com, by calling 1-800-221-CATS, or by printing and returning the paper bowl ticket application which can be found at k-statesports.com/bowlgame. A paper form will also be mailed to all season ticket holders and Ahearn Fund members in the coming days.

Season ticket holders and Ahearn Fund members should complete an online bowl application on the Season Ticket Renewal page at the online ticket office. Fans that have previously registered and linked their online account to their season ticket account can simply log-in with their respective e-mail address and password. The Athletics Ticket Office will process ticket orders for those fans who have pre-ordered tickets to the game following the bowl announcement on Sunday, December 7. Tickets will be assigned based on athletic department priority points and the post-season priority structure outline on the bowl pre-order form.

Tickets will be assigned and mailed as quickly as possible. In most cases bowl tickets are mail approximately 10 days before the event. the K-State Athletics Ticket Office will keep all fans that have pre-ordered tickets updated with ticket information via e-mail.

Ahearn Fund members that pre-order bowl tickets through the K-State Athletics Ticket Office will receive Prioty Point for each bowl ticket purchased.

The K-State Alumni Association will provide official travel packages to the bowl game. Visit the Alumni Association’s official bowl travel page at k-statesportstours.com to register for travel package information. Travel packages will not include game information.

K-State students are asked to stay tuned for information about student bowl tickets. Once the bowl announcement has been made student ticket information will be sent out via email to K-State student pass holders.

JCHS Cross Country to be Represented at State

The Junction City Blue Jay boys cross country team has qualified for the 6A State Cross Country boys cross countrymeet this Friday.

The Blue Jays finished second in their 6A regional meet. Stephen Deveau led the way with a 7th place finish in 17:01.6, and Anthony Deltufo placed 10th in 17:15.1.

In the girls competition at regional Brianna Pace of Junction City finished 8th in 16:15.0, and qualified for the state meet.

 

K-State – O-State Kickoff Set for 7 P. M.

The Big 12 Conference and Kansas State officials have been notified by the league’s television wildcatpartners that K-State’s game this Saturday, November 1, against Oklahoma State will kick off at 7 p.m. The contest will be televised nationally by ABC.

It will the first time this season Kansas State will play on ABC.

Chiefs Score 34 Unanswered Points in Route of Rams

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Jamaal Charles ran for two touchdowns, Knile Davis returned a kick chiefs logo99 yards for another score and the Kansas City Chiefs trounced the St. Louis Rams 34-7 on Sunday.

Cairo Santos added a pair of field goals for Kansas City (4-3), including a career-best 53-yarder. Alex Smith was 24 of 28 for 226 yards, while Davis capped a run of 34 unanswered points with a short touchdown run late in the fourth quarter.

Justin Houston had three of the Chiefs’ seven sacks.

The banged-up Rams (2-5) lost their sixth straight to Kansas City dating to Sept. 25, 1994, when they were still in Los Angeles. Austin Davis threw for 160 yards with a touchdown and a pick.

St. X Volleyball Update

The Saint Xavier Lady Rams High School volleyball team  in substate tournament competition volleyball clip artSaturday to Colony-Crest.

The Lady Rams were defeated in game one 25-14, and in game two 25-21.

The match was played at Blue Valley Randolph.

Royals Roster Moves

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – Making a rare 40-man roster move in the middle of the World Series, kcr twotheAL champion Kansas City Royals claimed outfielder Moises Sierra off waivers from the Chicago White Sox on Saturday.

To clear a roster spot, the Royals designated right-hander Liam Hendriks for assignment. Hendricks was acquired from Toronto on July 29 with catcher Erik Kratz for third baseman Danny Valencia, and he has not played since Sept. 23.

Sierra hit .230 with two homers and 22 RBIs this year for Toronto and the White Sox.

Royals Think Giants Wet Dirt to Slow Speedsters

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – When it comes to the Royals’ running game, Kansas City manager Ned kcrYost thinks the San Francisco Giants are being sticks in the mud.

The area around first base appeared to be a bit mucky for Game 3 of the World Series on Friday night. The Royals appeared to conclude the dirt was hosed down with extra vigor.

Yost says “Maybe the groundskeeper just was looking at all the Royals’ fans up in the corner there and just forgot. I thought it was a little extra wet around first.”

Giants manager Bruce Bochy claimed not to notice unusual dampening.

Kansas City led the major leagues with 153 stolen bases during the regular season. After swiping 13 bases in their first six postseason games this year, the Royals hadn’t stolen any in five straight games entering Saturday.

 

Kansas State Gets 500th Victory in Program History

The Kansas State Wildcats picked up their 500th victory in school history Saturday in their 23-0 shut out of the Texas Longhorns. SNYDER 10-25

Kansas State is now 500-621-41 in program history. When Snyder took over the program in 1989 the Wildcats had only accumulated 299 victories in 93 years. In the last 26 years, K-State has totaled 201 victories.

“When I first came here it was the only program that had accumulated, in NCAA football, 500 loses. So I equate that we caught up, we caught up with our loses somewhere along the road,” said Snyder.

The Wildcats improved to 6-1 on the season and remain atop the Big 12 Conference at 4-0. The Wildcats will host Oklahoma State next Saturday at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.
