Coach Braden, “Today junior Jacob Judy took home the gold in the discus.  He is starting throw consistently as the year progresses.  Senior Brock Barrett ran a great race in the open 800 and I was extremely pleased with the long jump distance of senior Sara Casaus.  Sara’s jump of over sixteen feet today is very encouraging with only three high school meets left in her career.  Senior Joanna Wright continues to improve every meet in the 200 meter dash and the girls 4 x 100 meter relay team of Casuas, Wright, Sanders, and Barrett is less than one half a second off the current school record. Sophomore Sammy Finnegan runs faster each and every week and freshman Sydney Barker continues to lower her 800 meter time every time she steps on the track.  All three coaches were pleased with the effort put forth by the Bombers here at Riley today.”

Wakefield’s next meet will be Monday May 9th when the Bombers travel to Clay Center for the Clay Center Junior Varsity Track Meet and then on Thursday May 12th, they travel to Goessel for the Wheat State League Meet.

Angeleau Scott Qualifies for 6A State Tennis Tournament

small blue jayThe Blue Jay tennis team qualified one of its singles players for the state tennis tournament this past Saturday.

Angeleau Scott started the tennis tournament as the 7th seed and needed to beat a higher seed to have a chance to repeat as a state qualifier.  After cruising through his first round 6-0, 6-0 over Man Huynh from Wichita Southeast, Scott got his first chance at state playing against Matt Gonazales, the eventual regional champion from Topeka High.   After dropping the first set 6-2, Scott played the second set close and had a chance to send it to a third set, before Gonazales closed out the set 7-5 giving Scott his first loss.

Scott then played for 5th place against Chris Gernon Topeka High, but dropped the match 6-4,6-1.  Scott advances to the state tennis tournament with a 20-12 record in singles.  The state tennis meet will be held this Friday and Saturday at Prairie Village-Harmon Park Tennis Complex in Prairie Village, KS.
