Connie Sue (Hudson) Omstead May 4, 1947 – October 3, 2019 (Age 72)

Connie’s life began on May 4, 1947, in Iberia, Missouri.  She is the daughter of Lawrence and Dorothy (Woolery) Hudson.  Connie attended a few years of college after high school in preparation for her life as a caregiver in area nursing homes as a restorative aid, CNA, and medication aid.  She worked at St. Joseph’s Convent in Wichita and for nursing homes in Peabody and Marion County.  Connie was united in marriage to William “Bill” Omstead on August 27, 1977, in Wichita.  The couple owned a Sonic franchise in Scott City and the Kay Sandwich Shop in Wichita.  Connie also worked as a para-professional for Peabody- Burns USD.  She volunteered as a cub scout leader when her children were involved and did the cleaning at the Florence Christian Church for a time.  Everything that Connie did was an example of her caring and loving spirit for others.  Her greatest joy was her family, which includes her children William Omstead, Jr, Randy (LeeAnn) Omstead, Rusty (Vicki) Omstead, all  of Wichita, Howard (Cindy) Omstead of Augusta, David (Windy) Jackson of Van Buren, AR, and Sharon (Joe) Omstead- Box of Florence; 38 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; siblings Larry Joe Hudson, Randy ( Mikayla) Hudson, Richard Hudson, and Carol (Joe) Cravens.  Connie passed away at her home on October 3, 2019.  She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill and sister Joyce Paquette.  Her family will gather with friends on Thursday October 10, 2019 at 3 p.m. at the Florence United Methodist Church for her memorial service.  Yazel-Megli-Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion, is serving the family.  Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to the March of Dimes, in care of Yazel-Megli- Zeiner Funeral Home (205 Elm, Marion).

Dorothy Mae (Graham) Thouvenell September 25, 1926 – October 5, 2019 (Age 93)

Dorothy’s life began on September 25, 1926, the daughter of Walter and Jerlean (Stewart) Graham in Granite City, Illinois. She graduated from Missouri State School of the Deaf and married Vernon Albert Thouvenell on May 11, 1957 in Missouri. Dorothy was a homemaker and also worked for restaurants as a dishwasher. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and her family.

Her family includes her sons and their wives, Jack and Gina Thouvenell of Irving, Texas, Jerry and Sheila Thouvenell of Hillsboro; daughter, Jennifer Cates of Blue Springs, Missouri; 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon in 1987; brother, Bill Graham and a granddaughter, Kandi Thouvenell and son in law Daniel Cates.  Dorothy passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 5, 2019, having reached the age of 93 years old.

Her family will gather on Saturday, October 12, from 12 noon – 2:00 p.m. with her service following at 2:00 p.m. both at Yazel-Megli-Zeiner Funeral Home in Hillsboro with Pastor Josh Wesner of Emmanuel Baptist of Marion officiating.

Memorial contributions in Dorothy’s name may be directed to Good Shepherd Hospice or Parkside Homes in care of Yazel-Megli-Zeiner Funeral Home, 902 E. D Street, Hillsboro, Kansas 67063.

 

Gary Ross Threewit

Gary Ross Threewit, 80, of Westmoreland, Kansas, died Wednesday, October 2, 2019, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.  He was a life-long resident of the area.

Gary was born on January 12, 1939, in Manhattan, Kansas, the son of Melvern L. and Ruby Davenport Threewit.  He was raised on the family farm near Fostoria and attended local schools.  In 1956, Gary graduated from Westmoreland High School.  Gary joined and served in the Army Reserves from 1956 until 1964.

Gary was a heavy equipment operator and was known for his skill operating a Wheeled-Tractor Scraper.  Gary was involved in building the Tuttle Creek Dam and Hwy 13 as well as many other projects around the state.  Gary then worked for thirteen years for the Pottawatomie County Road and Bridge Department.  He also farmed with his father and then later his own farm just north of Westmoreland. Gary was a recycling enthusiast and spent many hours cleaning and sorting for the Pottawatomie Recycling Committee.  Gary was an avid reader and enjoyed all books but especially westerns and mysteries.  He collected watch fobs and belt buckles and was a great supporter of Public Television.

Gary married Carol Holmgren on June 8, 1958, in Westmoreland.  She survives at their home.

Gary is also survived by his sons; David Threewit (Denise), Riley, and Michael Threewit, Westmoreland; his sisters; Julia Engle (Morris) and Kathleen Coffman; his brother-in-law, Loren Holmgren (Patsy); and his grandchildren; Elaina Plus, Johnathan Linder (Katherine), and Michaela Threewit; and his great-grand children; Myannah, Malik, and Zoey.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, October 12, 2019, at Campanella-Evans Mortuary in Wamego. A funeral lunch will follow in Westmoreland.  The family suggests memorial contributions to the Pottawatomie Recycling Committee or KTWU-PBS, and those may be sent in care of the mortuary.

Wesley P. Fluharty

Wesley P. Fluharty, 58, of Alma, Kansas, died Wednesday, October 2, 2019, at Aldersgate Village in Topeka. He was a long time resident of the community.

Wes was born on March 19, 1961, in Weirton, West Virginia, the son of Rodney J. and Paulette Tourney Fluharty. He attended local schools. Wes served in the United States Army before moving to Kansas. He returned to finish his high school diploma and graduated from Wabaunsee High School in 2010. Wes lived 11 years in Cottonwood Falls and 25 in Alma.

Wes worked for many years for the Laborer’s Union 1290. He did concrete work, asphalt, and asbestos removal. He also had worked running a dairy farm for two years and worked for IBP (now Tyson’s), A&W Asphalt and McDyson Concrete Companies. Wes was medically retired in 2008.

He was a member of the Labor 1290 Union and the North American Hunter’s Club. Wes was a avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, a bow enthusiast, and loved to feed and watch hummingbirds and care for other birds during the winter months. Wes enjoyed the outdoors and loved to cut wood. In his earlier years he enjoyed coon hunting.

Wes was a loving caring person and was especially loved and help care for his mother-in-law, Dorothy Geisler. He was also known county-wide for his Christmas lights display.

Wes married Roxanne Geisler on December 3, 1983. She survives at their home.

He is also survived by his mother; Paulette Conley (Gene), Wellsburg, West Virginia; step-children; Shiela Rae (Daniel Sipko), Gambrills, Maryland and Ryan Stokley (Gayli), Alma; his granddaughter, Rochelle Gardner (Tanner), San Antonio, Texas; his sister, Nancy; half brothers, Brian, Robert and Jay; and his step-brothers, Butch and Buck. He was preceded in death by his father.

A memorial service will be held at 6:30 pm, Saturday, October 12, 2019, at Campanella-Gentry Funeral Home in Alma. The family suggests memorial contributions to Midland Health Care, and those may be sent in care of the funeral home.

John Harold Hansen

MSgt. (Ret), veteran of Vietnam war with honors, John Harold Hansen, 76, of Junction City, KS, passed away on September 4, 2019.

He is survived by his son Kiger Hansen of New York, close friend John Barker of Kansas, and a host of family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Yon Hansen on January 17, 2009.

A memorial graveside service with full military honors will be held for him Wednesday October 9, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery, 5181 Wildcat Creek Rd., Manhattan, KS.

William Matthew “Bill” Fueser

William Matthew “Bill” Fueser 85 passed away October 2, 2019 at Memorial Hospital in Abilene. He was born March 19, 1934 on the Fueser farm south of Tipton, KS, to Henry and Elizabeth (Hake) Fueser. Bill attended Holy Corner School and St. Boniface Church until about 1943 when the family left the Tipton area and moved to a farm in Jewell County. Soon they moved to Beloit where Bill grew up and finished his schooling at St. Johns Catholic School.
He worked for Boogaarts Grocery and Bell Memorials in Beloit. Bill served with the National Guard at Beloit for two years and served in the US Air Force for over nine years. He was stationed in Iceland, Newfoundland, Texas, Nebraska, Washington, Wyoming, and Montana. For 20 years he was well regarded as a TV repairman while operating Bill’s TV Repair and working for RHV Hardware in downtown Abilene.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Francis J. Fueser, his sisters, Maryetta Crannell, Luella Weber, and baby sister, Elizabeth Marie Fueser.

He is survived by his sisters, Coralee Budke of Beloit and Amelia Scraper of Topeka, and many nieces and nephews, including very a special niece, Marie Senters of Beloit.

He attended St. Andrews Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion.
Bill had been an avid fisherman and his nephews fondly recall the times he took them fishing at various rivers, lakes, and ponds. He loved meeting his many friends daily at a local eatery for afternoon coffee. Bill was a loving, kind hearted man, who always put others needs before his own.

A Rosary will be held at Danner Funeral Home at 5:00 pm on Monday, Oct 7th, followed by a reflection and vigil. Funeral services will be officiated by Father Don Zimmerman at St. Andrews Catholic Church 10:30 am Tuesday, Oct 8th. Military honors will be conducted at 3:00 pm at St. Johns Cemetery, Beloit, KS.

The family suggests memorial contributions in his name be made to St. John’s Catholic School in Beloit. Danner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Rosabe Z. “Rosa” Moore

Rosabe Z. “Rosa” Moore, 91, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Monday, October 1, 2019 at Geary Community Hospital. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday, October 11, 2019, at St. Xavier Catholic Church. The cremated remains will be buried at Fort Riley Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Xavier Catholic Church.

Rosa was born August 20, 1928, in Lincoln, NM, the daughter of Christobal and Fuljencia (Benavidez) Zamora.

Rosa graduated from New Mexico State University with her Master’s Degree in Education. She taught school for over forty years. She retired as an elementary school teacher at Jefferson Elementary at Fort Riley. After her retirement, she volunteered at St. Xavier School teaching English as a second language. She was a member of St. Xavier Catholic Church. Her hobbies included golf, bowling, trips to the casino, bingo every night of the week.

She married CSM Robert K. Moore. He passed away in 1986.

Survivors include two sons, John J. Moore and his wife Kimberly of Topeka, KS and Gene Moore of Junction City, KS; three daughters, Paulette I. Moore of Grandview, MO, Diana L. Shannon of Junction City, KS and RoseMary Nick and her husband Dan of Rome, OH; several siblings; thirteen grandchildren and ten grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, several siblings and her son Christopher D. Moore

Paris Chantae Edmondson

Baby Paris Chantae Edmondson of Ogden, KS, passed away on September 20, 2019. Johnson Funeral Home of Junction City is assisting family with cremation arrangements. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Sunday October 6, 6:00 p.m. at the Church of Christ, 1125 North Adams St., Junction City, KS.

Daisy I. Dester

Daisy I. Dester, 85, passed away Tuesday, October 1, in Enterprise. She was born July 27, 1934 in Chelsea, Oklahoma, the daughter of Robert and Eva (Bledsoe) Sawyers. Growing up in Chelsea, Daisy attended local schools. November 24 1954 she married Eugene (Gene) P. Dester. Most all of their married life was spent in Abilene. He preceded her in death August 23, 2014. Daisy enjoyed painting, drawing and Bingo. She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Daisy is survived by: son, Steve (Janice) Dester of Solomon; two Grandsons, Chad (Erin) Dester of Abilene, Justin (Ashley) Dester of Abilene; three great-grandchildren, Colt Dester of Abilene, Kylie Dester of Herington, Audrey Dester of Abilene; sister, Bertha Sanders of Topeka and two brothers, Dennis (Linda) Sawyers of Waucomis, Oklahoma and Robert (Teri) Sawyers Jr. of Ponca, Oklahoma.
The family will receive friends 5:30 – 6:30 PM Friday, October 4th, at the Danner Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, October5th, at the Abilene First United Methodist Church with Pastors John and Jenny Collins officiating. Interment will follow in the Abilene Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions in her name be made to Hospice of Dickinson County. They may be left the church the day of the service or sent in care of Danner Home 501 N. Buckeye Abilene, Kansas 67410.

Marva L. Bond-Hull

Marva L. Bond-Hull, 83, of Junction City, passed away at her home surrounded by family and friends. Cremation has taken place.

Marva was born on November 14, 1935, In Fort Riley, Kansas to Tulley Bond and Lyndall Porter-Bond. She spent most of her life in the Junction City area, attended and graduated from the Junction City School Systems, and the Manhattan Vocational Nursing Program.

Marva was married to William T. Hull, he preceded her in death.

Marva is survived by three children Melanie Hull of Junction City, Kansas, William (Angela) Hull of Kansas City, Missouri, and Tully Hull of Washington DC. Three Grandchildren Geneva, Lauren, and Selina and 6 Great Grandchildren. And long-time family friend Raymona Turner.

She was preceded in death by her Son Garland Hull and Jennifer King, 7 brothers, Tulley Jr., Edgar, Decovan, Harold, Jerome, Charles, and Talton; 4 sisters Manuella Carter, Josephine Jackson, Janet Davis, and Ethel Holt.

Marva was a faithful member of the Spring Valley Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses all of who through the ransom sacrifice she has hopes of seeing again along with family and friends that she loved, in the resurrection to come in the promised paradise earth.
