Maxine L. Dreher

Maxine L. Dreher, 88, of Louisville, CO, formerly of Junction City, KS, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2019, at the Avista Adventist Hospital. A graveside service will be held 1 pm Wednesday, October 16, 2019, at the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery. A visitation will be held 6-8 pm Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at the Johnson Funeral Home 203 N. Washington Street, Junction City. Memorial contributions may be given to the Disabled American Veterans VA Hospital-Bldg #24 RM106G 2200 SW Gage Blvd. Topeka, KS 66622 or to an organization of the donor’s choice.
Maxine was born May 3, 1931, in Grant City, MO, the daughter of Daniel M. and Kathleen (Lane) Snow. On February 13, 1950, she married Earl W. Dreher, in Maryville, MO.
Maxine worked in the Army Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) for twenty-five years in various positions in Missouri, Georgia, Colorado, Germany, and Kansas. Before and during retirement, she enjoyed gardening, bird watching, working on home projects, bowling, playing cards, and traveling. One of her many pleasures was making beautiful quilts for her family, which would not only keep them warm but always remind them of her love and hugs.
Survivors include one daughter, Deborah Phillips of Roanoke, VA, and one son, Anthony Dreher and his wife Linda Krauze of Louisville, CO. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Nicole Phillips of Santa Monica, CA, Paul Dreher of Rochester, MN, and Rachel Dreher of St. Louis, MO, two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Dreher and Anne Snow, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl (Shorty), her parents, and three brothers.

Priscilla “Louise” Henderson

Funeral services for Priscilla “Louise” Henderson, age 84, of Abilene, will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 7, 2019 at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene with Mr. Paul Froelich officiating. Mrs. Henderson passed away Friday, October 4, 2019 at the Memorial Hospital in Abilene.

She was born July 31, 1935 in Mentor, Kansas the daughter of Richard and Priscilla I. (Elliott) Hosie. Louise was a longtime area resident attending schools in Enterprise. Working at many local restaurants: Duffy’s, White House, Wagon Wheel and the Elks. Moving to the manufacturing industry she worked at F. W. Woolworth in Junction City until plant closure and then for Russell Stover in Abilene until retiring. Not content in retiring she became a “lunch lady” at AMS until her health would not let her continue. She baked pies for greyhound meets, auctions and was known for ‘Wessie” coconut cream pie. She was a member of the Eagles Lodge, Elks Lodge, the Trails End Quilters Guild and the United Methodist Church Enterprise Kansas.

She was married to Jerry Mock later divorcing. She then married Marty Henderson on September 2, 1977 in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Louise is survived by her children Robert (Treela) Mock of Slaughterville, Oklahoma, Mike (Nancy) Mock of Abilene, Debora (Stoney) Farr of Abilene, Sherri Brock of St George, Kansas, Janette (Paul) Froelich of Enterprise, Betsy (Al) Ginder of Moundridge; brother Irvin (Betty) Hosie of Glendale, Arizona, Roy (Nancy) Hosie of Heston, sister Charlotte (Darryl) Kuntz of Abilene, 12 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Marty on October 12, 1985, son Steve Mock, sisters Alice Vogt and Dorothy Lovett, and brother Robert Hosie.

Louise’s final resting place will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery near Enterprise. Her family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home. Patrick John Edward Livingston

Patrick John Edward Livingston, age 72, of Manhattan passed away Sept 17, 2019 in Denton, TX. Patrick was born on December 14, 1946, in Baxter Springs, Kansas. He was the son of the late John Joseph Livingston and the late Dorothy Margaret Milton Livingston and a resident of Manhattan for 55 years. He graduated from Lawton High school in Oklahoma in 1964. He then joined the US Army and completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, followed by 8 weeks of military police training at the Army Training Center, Fort Gordon, GA. Livingston’s training included instruction in civil and military law, traffic control, prisoner-of-war control, and self-defense. He served in the Vietnam War in 1966. In 1989, he became a mason and member of LaFayette Lodge #16 of Manhattan.

Patrick had an impeccable work ethic. He started delivering newspapers as a young boy. As a young adult, he worked at Cook’s Paint, Harding Glass and Skaggs Ford all in Manhattan. He then purchased Pats Pawn & Gun Shop in Ogden, KS in which he worked for 38 years. Over those 38 years, Patrick worked with several law enforcement agencies on many occasions, including providing records of the gun sale leading to the arrest of the Oklahoma City bombers. In addition, he owned and operated many other small businesses over the years. He was also known for his keen business mind and outgoing personality.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 51 years, Judy Kay; his daughters Julie (husband Tyler) Glaum of Bettendorf, IA, Dr. Jennifer Livingston (husband Dr. Scott Haesemeyer) of Leawood, KS, and Jill Livingston of Topeka, KS; grandchildren Trevor and Jonathan Glaum, Reagan and Ava Haesemeyer; brother Michael Livingston of Sanger, TX; sisters Jeanne Wagner of Laurel, MD and Vilma Thomas of London, England. He was preceded in death by both his parents and his brother John Livingston Jr of Joplin, Mo.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, Oct 12th at 11:00am at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow the service at the St. George Cemetery in St. George, Kansas.

Carolyn A Carlson

Carolyn A Carlson, 57, of Shelbyville, Kentucky, died Saturday, October 5, 2019, in Louisville, Kentucky.

Carolyn attended Luckey High Catholic school, and graduated from Manhattan High School,
Manhattan, Kansas. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Business from Washburn
University in Topeka. After college, she served as a Lieutenant in the US Air Force,
stationed at Ramstein Air Base, Germany. There she met and married her husband, Mike.
Carolyn loved being a mother and serving in the church. Her favorite jobs were teaching
grade school and volunteering as a peer counselor at A Loving Choice Pregnancy Resource
Center in Shelbyville.

She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Michael Carlson, Shelbyville Kentucky, her son Matthew Carlson (Stephanie) and grandson Leroy Carlson, Lincoln Nebraska, her daughter Nicole Carlson (Wence) of Bardstown, Kentucky, and her mother Dolores Kemnitz of Manhattan. She was preceded in death by her father, Gilbert Kemnitz.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM till 8:00 PM with a Rosary at 7:00 PM at Carlson’s Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home and Cremation. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, October 12, 2019, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Wamego Kansas. Father Mike Peterson will officiate. Burial will be at the St. Joseph cemetery in Flush Kansas. A memorial service for her Shelbyville, Kentucky family and friends will be held at a later date.

Charles Dale Morrison

Charles Dale Morrison, 77 of White City, Kansas, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 of liver cancer.

Dale was born April 1, 1942 in Dickinson County, Kansas on the family farm. He was born to Charles Squire and Ellen Adell (Alexander) Morrison.

Dale’s family lived in the country in Dickinson County where he grew up. He attended school and graduated from Solomon High School in 1960. Dale knew at a very young age that he wanted to be a farmer.  He raised crops, custom cut, raised hogs and learned to build, repair and maintain vehicles and farm equipment.  After graduating high school, he enlisted in the Army National Guard in Dickinson County and served his country from 1964 – 1970.

Dale married June Ella Hunter on June 6, 1964 in White City, KS. They resided in Dickinson County from 1964 – 1972, where Dale ran a mechanic shop with his father Charles (Junior), custom fed, raised crops and hogs during that time. In 1972, Dale and June moved to the White City area and bought a farm just south of White City. Dale grew his hog farm to include at one time having over 800 head of hogs.  He started in the cattle business at this time, purchasing 10 head of cattle and grew his herd from there.

Dale was involved and donated his time and talents in various activities around the community; White City American Legion, United Methodist Church, White City Ball Fields, Fourth of July Celebrations and Activities, White City Saddle Club, Young Farmers Club, among others.  Dale gave his time to family, friends and neighbors and was always willing to help whenever needed.  He was loved by family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Dale is survived by his wife June of 55 years; 2 daughters, Gina and husband John Weigel of Wakeeney and Penny and husband Chris Scarff of Junction City; son-in-law Greg Carson; 13 grandchildren;  17 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Cheryl and husband Joe Riley of Eugene, OR and Sheila Cook of Solomon; brother-in-law Richard Hunter and his wife Marlin of Littleton, Co.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy on February 3, 2013; his parents, Charles (Junior) and Ellen Morrison; his sister, Connie Adell Morrison; brother Lonnie Morrison; and mother and father-in-law, Allen and Ella Hunter.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, October 20, 2019 at Simmons Fellowship Hall in White City, from 2:00 – 4:00pm.

Laura Mae Fabert-Murray October 6, 1925 – October 5, 2019 (Age 93)

Laura was born October 6, 1925, northwest of Latimer, near Clarks Creek.  She was the daughter of Fredrick Paul and Anna Laura (Kandt) Krause; and a sister to eight brothers, Carl, Edwin, Roy, Paul, Fred, Raymond “Pete”, Clyde, Robert; and three sisters, Mary Ann, Wilhelmina “Billie”, and Elsie.

Laura received her GED when she was fifty.  She went two semesters at Kansas University in Lawrence.   She worked eight years at KU Printing Service as a proofreader.  She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary, Unit #125 of Lyndon, Kansas, and a past president. She attended the Woodbine United Methodist Church.  Her favorite hobbies were quilting and woodworking.

Laura’s first marriage was to Melvin Fabert, August 29, 1942, at Abilene, Kansas.  They were the parents of James L., Jerry Alan, Dennis Michael, and Steve R.  After thirty years, she and Melvin divorced.  She married Everett Murray, March 21, 1980, at Lawrence, Kansas and they were divorced.

Laura is preceded in death by two sons, James L. Fabert, Dennis Fabert,  her eight brothers, Carl, Edwin, Roy, Paul, Fred, Raymond “Pete”, Clyde and Robert Krause; three sisters, Mary Ann McCutcheon, Wilhelmina “Billie” Stevens, Elsie Rock, and her parents.

Laura is survived by two sons, Jerry Fabert of Spooner, Wisconsin, and Steve Fabert of Topeka, Kansas.

Cremation is planned with memorial services at a later date.

Mertyce Bliss Rohles,

Mertyce Bliss Rohles, age 97, of Manhattan, died Sunday, October, 6, 2019, at Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community.

She was born December 2, 1921, in Mankato, Minnesota, to Carl D. and Jennie (Weber) Bliss. She attended Carleton College and due to her mother’s health moved to San Antonio in 1942.

On November 9, 1943, she was united in marriage to Frederick H. Rohles, Jr. at St. Marks Episcopal church in San Antonio. This union was blessed with three children: Nancy, Frederick H. III “Rick” and Susan.

She was active in Girls Scouts, heading up their God and Community program at Holloman AFB, where her husband was stationed, she was in charge of the Air Force Chapel Program, and involved in charity work for under privileged military families. She and her family moved to Manhattan in 1963.

Survivors include her husband of Manhattan; three children: Nancy Johnson of Topeka, Susan Grapengater and her husband Rick of Tulsa, OK, and Frederick H. Rohles, III “Rick” and his wife Kim of Hoffman Estates, IL; seven grandchildren: Susan Unger (David), David Denning (Heather), Kim Harrigan (Matt), Brad Rohles (Gina), Peter Rohles (Susan), Mark Grapengater (Stacey), and Laura Ellison (Ashley); and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mertyce was an ardent bridge player and a lover of dogs, especially her dachshund Lucy.

Memorial services will be held at 9:30 A.M. Saturday, October 12th, at the College Avenue United Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. Dennis L. Ackerman and Reverend Mark Grapengater officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kansas State University Foundation for the Fred and Mertyce Rohles Speaker Series. Contributions may be left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502.

Virginia Ruth Gilsdorf

Virginia Ruth Gilsdorf, 67, of Onaga, Kansas, died Monday, October 7, 2019, at the Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City.  She was a long-time resident of the area.

Virginia was born on January 4, 1952, in Kansas City, Kansas, the daughter of Gerald and Gladys Shultz Sperry.  She attended local schools and graduated from high school in Kansas City, Missouri in 1970.  She then attended school to become a dental assistant.

Virginia married Robert Eugene Gilsdorf on April 27, 1985, in Kansas City, Missouri.  He survives at their home.

Following her marriage, Virginia was a homemaker and farm wife, helping with the family operation just east of Onaga.  She was an active member of the Fellowship Baptist Church and the Onaga Weightlifting Club.  She loved to cook and to read, especially her Bible. Virginia also loved working with children and was a Sunday School teacher.  She loved to laugh and spend time with family, she especially enjoyed her grandchildren.

Virginia is also survived by her children; Emma Schreiber (Luke), Soldier, and Josh Gilsdorf, Guthrie, Oklahoma; her grandchildren, Eleanor, Lincoln, Levi, and Evelyn; and her half-brother, John Sperry.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Thursday, October 10, 2019, at the Fellowship Baptist Church.  Pastor Eugene Jennings will be officiating.  Burial will follow at Onaga City Cemetery.  The family will greet friends following the graveside committal at a luncheon at the church.  They suggest memorial contributions to the Onaga Weightlifting Club, and those may be sent in care of Campanella-Kufahl Funeral Home in Wheaton.

Alan Dale Cromer

Alan Dale Cromer 61, of Pueblo, Colorado, passed away September 19, 2019, in Pueblo.

He was born to the union of Melvin D. and Louella M. (Anderson) Cromer. Both preceded him in death, along with his sister, Amy Billesbach, and sister-in-law, Yolanda Cromer.

Alan was a Rock hound, collecting unique rocks, art, drawing and just being a free spirited guy.

Alan is survived by his brother, Ollie Cromer; several other relatives and friends who loved and will miss Alan dearly.

A graveside inurnment service will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday,October 16, 2019, at the Sweedish Cemetery south of Alma, Kansas. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, Oct. 10th, 2019 at Angelus Chapel in Pueblo, Colorado.

Robert Jennings Smith

Robert Jennings Smith, 86, of Wamego, Kansas, formerly of Alta Vista, died Saturday, October 5, 2019 at the Valley Vista Good Samaritan Center.  He had been a long-time resident of the area.

Bob was born December 12, 1932, in Falfurrias, Texas, the son of Andrew J. and Mary Emma Brochet Smith.  He attended local schools and then joined the United States Navy.  Bob served for over twenty-one years in the Navy, during the Korean War and Viet Nam Conflict

After retiring from military service, Bob worked for many years at the GBRA Water Authority monitoring the water flow for the electrical generating plant in Seguin, Texas.  After his retirement he moved to Kansas and lived in Alta Vista until moving to Wamego.  Bob enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He married Mary Elizabeth Taylor Barnes on November 28, 1972, in Seguin, Texas.  She survives.

Bob is also survived by his step-children; Walter “Buddy” Barnes (Jane), Alma, Charlie Barnes, San Antonio, Texas and Charlotte Smith, San Antonio, Texas; his sister, Dorothy Dolgner, Houston, Texas; as well as numerous nieces, nephew, step-grand and step-great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a step-daughter, Carolyn Lisembee.

A private inurnment will be held at the Kansas Veteran’s Cemetery near Manhattan.  The family suggests memorial contributions to a charity of the donor’s choice, and those may be sent in care of Campanella-Gentry Funeral Home in Alma.
