Wesley P. Fluharty

Wesley P. Fluharty, 58, of Alma, Kansas, died Wednesday, October 2, 2019, at Aldersgate Village in Topeka. He was a long time resident of the community.

Wes was born on March 19, 1961, in Weirton, West Virginia, the son of Rodney J. and Paulette Tourney Fluharty. He attended local schools. Wes served in the United States Army before moving to Kansas. He returned to finish his high school diploma and graduated from Wabaunsee High School in 2010. Wes lived 11 years in Cottonwood Falls and 25 in Alma.

Wes worked for many years for the Laborer’s Union 1290. He did concrete work, asphalt, and asbestos removal. He also had worked running a dairy farm for two years and worked for IBP (now Tyson’s), A&W Asphalt and McDyson Concrete Companies. Wes was medically retired in 2008.

He was a member of the Labor 1290 Union and the North American Hunter’s Club. Wes was a avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, a bow enthusiast, and loved to feed and watch hummingbirds and care for other birds during the winter months. Wes enjoyed the outdoors and loved to cut wood. In his earlier years he enjoyed coon hunting.

Wes was a loving caring person and was especially loved and help care for his mother-in-law, Dorothy Geisler. He was also known county-wide for his Christmas lights display.

Wes married Roxanne Geisler on December 3, 1983. She survives at their home.

He is also survived by his mother; Paulette Conley (Gene), Wellsburg, West Virginia; step-children; Shiela Rae (Daniel Sipko), Gambrills, Maryland and Ryan Stokley (Gayli), Alma; his granddaughter, Rochelle Gardner (Tanner), San Antonio, Texas; his sister, Nancy; half brothers, Brian, Robert and Jay; and his step-brothers, Butch and Buck. He was preceded in death by his father.

A memorial service will be held at 6:30 pm, Saturday, October 12, 2019, at Campanella-Gentry Funeral Home in Alma. The family suggests memorial contributions to Midland Health Care, and those may be sent in care of the funeral home.
