Gary Ross Threewit, 80, of Westmoreland, Kansas, died Wednesday, October 2, 2019, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.  He was a life-long resident of the area.

Gary was born on January 12, 1939, in Manhattan, Kansas, the son of Melvern L. and Ruby Davenport Threewit.  He was raised on the family farm near Fostoria and attended local schools.  In 1956, Gary graduated from Westmoreland High School.  Gary joined and served in the Army Reserves from 1956 until 1964.

Gary was a heavy equipment operator and was known for his skill operating a Wheeled-Tractor Scraper.  Gary was involved in building the Tuttle Creek Dam and Hwy 13 as well as many other projects around the state.  Gary then worked for thirteen years for the Pottawatomie County Road and Bridge Department.  He also farmed with his father and then later his own farm just north of Westmoreland. Gary was a recycling enthusiast and spent many hours cleaning and sorting for the Pottawatomie Recycling Committee.  Gary was an avid reader and enjoyed all books but especially westerns and mysteries.  He collected watch fobs and belt buckles and was a great supporter of Public Television.

Gary married Carol Holmgren on June 8, 1958, in Westmoreland.  She survives at their home.

Gary is also survived by his sons; David Threewit (Denise), Riley, and Michael Threewit, Westmoreland; his sisters; Julia Engle (Morris) and Kathleen Coffman; his brother-in-law, Loren Holmgren (Patsy); and his grandchildren; Elaina Plus, Johnathan Linder (Katherine), and Michaela Threewit; and his great-grand children; Myannah, Malik, and Zoey.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, October 12, 2019, at Campanella-Evans Mortuary in Wamego. A funeral lunch will follow in Westmoreland.  The family suggests memorial contributions to the Pottawatomie Recycling Committee or KTWU-PBS, and those may be sent in care of the mortuary.
