The Chiefs improved to 10-3 by dominating an opponent that offered little resistance. They scored on their first four possessions, sacked Robert Griffin III five times and Kirk Cousins once, and returned a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns.

The score was 17-0 after the first quarter and 38-10 at halftime. Quintin Demps immediately answered the lone Redskins touchdown with a 95-yard kickoff return, part of a stunning tally of 321 return yards by Kansas City in the first half alone.

The Redskins fell to 3-10, increasing speculation that coach Mike Shanahan will be gone at the end of the season.

Reveille, Retreat to Impact Gate Access

FORT RILEY, Kan. –  Beginning on Dec. 2nd, Fort Riley will begin a re-emphasis on the time-honored military traditions of Reveille and Retreat. This  re-emphasis will alter procedures for accessing and leaving the post.

Reveille signals the official start of the duty day and takes place at 6:30 a.m. Retreat signals its fort riley logoend and takes place each day at 5 p.m., with the exception of Friday, when it takes place at 3 p.m. Each last approximately 2-4 minutes.

The changes are part of an increased emphasis on traditional customs and courtesies established by Maj. Gen. Paul Funk and Divison Command Sergeant Major Michael Grinston.

“Last week, the commanding general and I published the Big Red One standards book,” Sergeant Major Grinston said. “[These changes] affects everyone on Fort Riley.”

During both events, a bugle is sounded as an alert to all persons on the installation. At these times, security officers at each gate will place cones at the gates in order to restrict personnel movement onto and off the installation.

Roadblocks will also be placed to the north and south of 1st Infantry Division Headquarters Building on 1st Division Road to halt vehicle traffic. Traffic will not be stopped on weekends, federal and training holidays or during a severe weather advisory.

This protocol applies to everyone on the installation, military and civilian alike.  Civilian Department of the Army employees, contractors and visitors are encouraged to participate in this tradition by standing firm and upright with their hands over their hearts and removing their headgear if applicable.

While driving on Fort Riley during Reveille and Retreat, personnel in civilian clothing are to remain seated in their vehicle pulled off to the side of the road for the duration of the bugle call. Also, it is appropriate to lower the volume of loud radio broadcasts and music.

Reveille and Retreat are both military traditions, and stopping vehicles and rendering proper customs and courtesies at those times are appropriate at every United States military installation.

During Reveille and Retreat military personnel in uniform not in formation are required by regulation to face the flag and render a hand salute at the first note of Reveille and end their salute on the last note.

There will be times while driving when drivers won’t hear the bugle call. However, when other vehicles are pulling to the side of the road or when Soldiers are rendering honors to the flag, drivers are asked to take notice and do the same.

(AP) — President Barack Obama says he hears Americans who are upset about losing their health insurance “loud and clear” and is offering a fix.

Obama on Thursday announced that insurance companies can keep offering consumers plans that would otherwise be cancelled.

The president noted that the first-month enrollment numbers in health care plans under his law are lagging and he isn’t happy about it. He said that “we fumbled the roll-out” of the program. And he vowed to build a better health care system for every American and “get it right.”

The administrative changes are good for just one year, though senior administration officials said they could be extended if problems with the law persist.

(AP) — A state health official says flu season has started in Kansas but there isn’t any indication that this year’s outbreak will be any worse than previous years.

Charlie Hunt, state epidemiologist for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, says Thursday that the first flu cases were reported in Sedgwick County but no widespread outbreaks have been reported.

Hunt says many factors help spread the flu virus, but weather isn’t the major indicator. He says the focus should be on the strain of the flu virus that is circulating.

Residents are being offered two flu vaccines, one aimed at three seasonal strains and one targeting four.
