The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Wildcats and was their first victory of the season in Big 12 play.

Afterwards Bill Snyder was asked what kind of mental boost was it for the Wildcats to get that first Big 12 win. “Well I just watched their response in the locker room. They were excited, happy, and spirited about it. ”

Quarterbacks Daniel Sams and Jake Waters combined to complete 18 of 21 passes and throw four touchdown passes.

West Virginia receiver on one play, which led to a Mountaineer turnover. “It was just a quarterback scramble. I was in coverage and the guy kind of got in my way. The quarterback cut back and I saw the ball loose and tried to get it out. ”

The Wildcats ( 3-4, 1-3  Big 12 ) host Iowa State next Saturday at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled at 2:30 p.m.

Bisio said because it was the regional meet she was nervous entering the race. “I knew that the first mile would be everyone packed together, and then the second mile would be really hard. But as you’re running you have to think you can do it, you can do it. It was hard for me, but I just kept thinking in my mind I can do it.”

No one from the Blue Jay boys team qualified for state. Nick Arneson of Junction City led the Blue Jays with a 28th place finish in 17:53.94. Stephen Deveau was 29th 17:55.64.    Chris Melgares of Manhattan finished first in 16:08.18.

The loss ended the season for Junction City.

Lady Jay coach Megan Parks, said Washburn Rural is a good team. “We played out of our minds, probably the best volleyball we’ve played all year for the first 8 to 10 points. Washburn Rural stepped up and pushed back, and we didn’t…we didn’t push. I mean they just, they didn’t stop.”

Junction City finished the season with a final match record of 13-25.

Blue Jays Fall to Topeka High

The Topeka High Trojans made a 21-14 halftime lead over the Junction City Blue Jays stand up Friday night at Hummer Sports Park in the capitol city.blue jay

The Trojans won the football game by that same 21-14 score after neither team failed to put the ball in the end zone in the second half.

Junction City had two opportunities late in the game, with the ball 1st and 10 at the Trojan 22-yard line and 1st and 10 just outside the Topeka High 30-yard line. The first series ended with a failed field goal try by the Blue Jays, and on the first down of the latter series Junction City tried a halfback pass, but the throw was picked off by the Trojans ending any threat by the Blue Jays.

After the game Blue Jay coach Randall Zimmerman felt it was frustrating the Blue Jays could not punch the ball downfield on those two later series. “No we could not. That’s very, very frustrating. As well as we played last week we played probably that poor this week.”

Junction City fell to 5-3 overall and 1-1 in district play, while Topeka High is 7-1 overall and 1-1 in district action.  The Blue Jays will play at Manhattan next Friday while the Trojans will play at Washburn Rural.

In the other half of the district Manhattan defeated Washburn Rural 13-10. The Indians are 2-0 in district competition while the Junior Blues are 0-2.

Older Players Need to Come Through For K-State Men’s Basketball

As Kansas State heads into the 2013-2014 coach Bruce Weber knows his older players have to be consistent if the Wildcats are going to be competitive in the Big 12 Conference.bruce weber action

Weber told a Big 12 Media Day audience the Wildcats lost some key players such as Rodney McGruder, Jordan Henriquez, and Martavious Irving. “The key for us to be competitive in the league there’s no doubt our older guys have to be consistent, starting with our seniors Will Spradling, Shane Southwell, Omari Lawrence, Ryan Schulz. They have to be there every day got to be great leaders.

Weber noted 6’8 junior Thomas Gipson has lost 30 pounds and has a chance to be one of the better players in the league.

He said there are some talented freshman but every day is new to them.

The Wildcats lost Angel Rodriguez during the offseason when he decided to transfer out of the program. He would up at Miami.

Will Spradling will get the opportunity to replace at the point guard position for Kansas State. Weber stated, “Early we’re going to have to play well at the point, pretty much most of the game. Weber added it will take away from Spradling’s scoring so Shane Southwell and Thomas Gipson will be needed to “step up.”

“I think in the future Marcus Foster can shoot and he can score the basketball, freshman from Wichita Falls, Texas. He can score, Jevon Thomas is very, very talented but we’re not going to get him until Christmas so he’s kind out of our thoughts right now.” Weber added for the long term future those two players will be special for Kansas State.

The Wildcats open the season November 1 at Bramlage Coliseum with an exhibition game against Pittsburg State. Their first regular season will be Northern Colorado at Bramlage November 8.

K-State Returns to Practice this Week with Fresh Legs

College football players hardly have time to spend time with their families during the season and when the opportunity presents it self, it can be much needed.

This past weekend was the Kansas State Wildcats second and final bye week of the season SNYDER 9-24and Head coach Bill Snyder decided to give his players the weekend off.

“They have been going virtually every day for whatever that period of time is, two and a half months since the first of August,” Snyder said Tuesday. “The last time we had the off week, we gave them a day off early in the week and a day off late in the week.”

He explained that because the team has a ballgame over the Thanksgiving weekend and they won’t be able to make it home, “This gave them a chance to.”

The team practiced last Friday and were then released until they had to return for treatments on Sunday.

Dante Barnett, Sophomore Defensive Back, said that it was nice to go back home to Tulsa, Oklahoma and spend time with family,”It was a great feeling. Anytime I can go home during a season it’s like wow, I’m going to use the most of this opportunity.”

Not all of the players were able to make it back home including Freshman Full Back, Glenn Gronkowski. He said that he spent Saturday relaxing and watching football.”We had every single game on of our opponents for the next six games, they were all on t.v. this week.”

The Wildcats will be looking for their first conference win of the season Saturday against West Virginia.

The Mountaineers are 3-4 overall and 1-3 in Big XII play. Their only conference win was over Oklahoma State in Week five. They have dropped their last two to Baylor and Texas Tech.

Snyder was asked Tuesday if he see’s any differences in West Virginia from last year to this year. “I do not see a substantial amount of differences. They do not have the Tavon Austin youngster quite obviously, or Geno Smith, but the other young guys play well.”

“I think they have good schemes on both sides of the ball, I just think they are trying to get new guys and young guys that have not worked together to fit into the system.”

On West Virginia’s defense he said that they are still trying to latch onto who they really are, as much as anything. He did say that they are a good pursuit team,” They will get nine, 10, 11 guys around the ball. Every snap they do an awful lot of things.”

Saturdays match up will also feature K-State’s 150th birthday celebration and annual homecoming festivities. Kickoff is slated for 2:45 p.m. at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.

ESPNU to Provide Coverage at Big 12 Media Day

Fans will be able to tune into ESPNU on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. to hear from all 10 of the Big 12 men’s head basketball coaches and selected student-athletes at the league’s Men’s Basketball Media Day at Kansas City’s Sprint Center.wildcat

The K-State contingent at Media Day wil include head coach Bruce Weber, senior guards Shane Southwell and Will Spradling, plus junior forward Thomas Gipson. Fans will be able to interact with the Wildcat players via social media as the trio will host a Twitter Takeover of @kstatesports during media day with use of instagram and Vine videos. The athletes will take fan questions via @kstatesports with the best ones getting selected for use on the platform.

The Wildcats open their 2013-2014 campaign on Friday Nov. 1 in an exhibition game with Pittsburg State at 8 p.m., while the season opener with Northern Colorado is set for Friday, Nov. 8 at 8 p.m.

K-State – West Virginia Meet Saturday

Kansas State will return to action at Bill Snyder Family Stadium Saturday when the Wildcats host West Virginia. wildcat

Kickoff is set for 2:45 p.m.

Kansas State was off last week.

Giving Kansas State an extra week to prepare has traditionally been bad news for opponents. The Wildcats have had 21 previous mid-season bye weeks under head coach Bill Snyder, and have turned the extra week of preparation into a 15-6 record the following week.

The Mountaineers are 3-4, while the Wildcats are 2-4 on the season.
