The team started their return trip home from the tournament Saturday on one of the school district’s Blue Jay buses, but coach Bob Laster confirmed it broke down on I-70 about 10 miles out of Kansas City. Parents of the wrestlers were contacted and were able to give the players and coaches rides back to Junction City.
It’s not the first time there have been problems with Blue Jay activity buses breaking down for Junction City High school sports teams, but the Board of Education recently moved to address that problem by agreeing to lease two brand new buses through an arrangement with B & B Busing. Those are expected to become available by the 2015-2016 school year. The new buses will replace the two Blue Jay buses that have been experiencing mechanical difficulty.
The Iowa State Cyclones used a 13-3 second-half run to propel themselves to a 79-59 win over Kansas
State in women’s basketball at Bramlage Coliseum Saturday night.
Iowa State had three players score in double figures led by nikki Moody with 20 points and 12 assists. Breanna Lewis led the Wildcats with 15 points.
K-State fell to 11-5 overall and 1-4 in the Big 12, while the Cyclones improved to 12-4 and 3-2.
The Kansas State Wildcats are sitting atop the Big 12 men’s
basketball standings following their 63-61 win over Baylor at Bramlage Coliseum Saturday.
K-State is 4-1 in conference play, one-half game ahead of both Kansas and Iowa State. The Cyclones, who defeated Kansas Saturday 86-81, and the Jayhawks are both 3-1 in conference action.
There is still a long way to go in the conference season. Big 12 teams play an 18-game regular season schedule.
SEATTLE (AP) – Russell Wilson hit Jermaine Kearse for a 35-yard touchdown 3:19 into overtime to
lift the Seattle Seahawks to an improbable 28-22 victory over Green Bay in the NFC championship game.
The Seahawks became the first defending champion to make the Super Bowl in 10 years, and will play the winner of the AFC title game between Indianapolis and New England.
Outplayed much of Sunday and plagued by five turnovers, the Seahawks (14-4) trailed 19-7 with 2:09 remaining. That’s when Wilson ran 1 yard for a TD.
Seattle recovered a bobbled onside kick at the 50, and Marshawn Lynch sped and powered his way to a 24-yard TD run. Wilson’s desperate 2-point conversion pass was hauled in by Luke Willson to make it 22-19.
But Aaron Rodgers led the Packers (13-5) to Mason Crosby’s fifth field goal, from 48 yards with 14 seconds to go.
Then Wilson and Kearse struck.

Game 17 * Bramlage Coliseum * January 14, 2015
Kansas State used a stellar defensive effort to outlast Texas Tech, 58-51, for its third-straight win on Wednesday in front of 12,264 at Bramlage Coliseum. Up 49-46 with 3:05 left to play in the contest, the Wildcats locked down on the defensive end, holding the Red Raiders to only five points on 2-of-6 shooting for the remainder of the game, while tacking on nine points of their own to seal the victory. Free throw shooting keyed the Wildcats on offense, as they connected on 21-of-26 with Marcus Foster (6-of-8), Justin Edwards (5-of-5), Thomas Gipson (4-of-5) and Wesley Iwundu (3-of-4) all having strong days at the line. K-State, which held Texas Tech to an opponent season-low 33.9 percent shooting for the game, has held opponents to under 65 points or less in 10-straight contests. Foster had team-highs in points (14), rebounds (5) and assists (4).
