LAST GAME SUMMARY

K-State 59, 17/17 Oklahoma 56

Game 26  *  Bramlage Coliseum  *  February 14, 2015

  • Sophomore Marcus Foster hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with 4.3 seconds remaining to send Kansas State to a 59-56 win over No. 17/17 Oklahoma in front of a sellout crowd 12,528 at Bramlage Coliseum on Saturday night. The 3-pointer, Foster’s second game-winner against the Sooners this season, helped K-State snap a 5-game losing streak and, in the process, earn a season sweep of Oklahoma for the second time in the last three seasons. Leading 56-49 with 3:51 remaining after a Foster lay-up, the Sooners used a furious 7-0 run to tie the contest at 56-all on a pair of free throws by Jordan Woodard. With neither team able to capitalize on their possessions, it was a pair of rebounds by sophomore Wesley Iwundu, the first on a Woodard miss with minute to play and the second on a miss by Jevon Thomas with 22 seconds that enabled the Wildcats to set up the final shot.

GAME 27 – QUICK HITTERS

  • Kansas State (13-13, 6-7 Big 12) begins a 2-game road trip to the state of Texas on Wednesday, as the Wildcats play TCU (15-10, 2-10 Big 12) at 7 p.m. CT at the Wilkerson-Greines Center. The game will air on FOX Sports Southwest as well as locally on FOX Sports Midwest Plus with Brian Estridge (play-by-play) and John Denton (analyst) on the call.
  • Wednesday’s match-up will be the first of 3 games in a 6-day span for the Wildcats, who will complete their road swing on Saturday at No. 20/20 Baylor (18-7, 6-6 Big 12) at noon on ESPNU before returning home to play No. 8/8 Kansas (21-4, 10-2 Big 12) on ESPN’s Big Monday at 8 p.m. CT.
  • K-State will be looking to reverse its road woes, as the Wildcats are 2-9 away from Manhattan, including 1-7 in true road contests and 1-5 in the Big 12. The one road win came at No. 16/18 Oklahoma on Jan. 10.
  • K-State is 8-2 all-time against TCU, including 5-0 in the Big 12 era and have won all 3 meetings in Fort Worth. The Wildcats won the first meeting, 58-53 on Jan. 7, as Marcus Foster led all scorers with 23 points.
  • K-State snapped its 5-game losing streak on Saturday, as Foster hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with 4.3 seconds remaining to help earn a season sweep of No. 17/17 Oklahoma for the second time in 3 seasons. It marked the second time that Foster has clipped the Sooners, as he hit the game-winning 3-pointer with 4.1 seconds left in a 66-63 OT win on Jan. 10.
  • The win enabled K-State to get back to 13-13 overall after falling below .500 for the first time this late in the season since Jan. 28, 2004.

THE OPPONENT: TCU (15-10, 2-10 Big 12)

  • TCU enters Wednesday’s game with a 15-10 record after snapping a 7-game losing streak with a 70-55 win over 21/24 Oklahoma State at home on Saturday… The Horned Frogs were 13-0 in non-conference play before posting its current 2-10 mark in league play… The squad is 11-5 at their temporary home (Wilkerson-Greines Arena), including 1-5 in Big 12 play.

Wichita State Will Not Appeal Loss of Baseball Victories

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) – Wichita State officials say the school will not appeal an NCAA ruling that it must shockersvacate its baseball wins in the 2012 and 2013 seasons.

University president John Bardo said in a statement Wednesday that he disagreed with the punishment but decided it was not in the school’s best interest to appeal.

Wichita State has not yet determined which games included the ineligible players. The Shockers won 74 games in the two seasons.

The NCAA placed the baseball program on probation in January after finding the Shockers used 21 players who received impermissible benefits in 2012 and 2013. The NCAA found the players were given improper discounts on non-baseball merchandise from the program’s athletic apparel manufacturer.

The school also was placed on one year probation and fined $5,000.

Chiefs Moves

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – The Chiefs released wide receivers Donnie Avery and A.J. Jenkins on chiefs logoTuesday as they began to clear roster and salary cap space ahead of what could be a busy offseason.

Kansas City is facing the loss of All-Pro linebacker Justin Houston and center Rodney Hudson in free agency. The Chiefs are expected to meet with Houston’s representatives about a long-term deal on Wednesday in Indianapolis, and the possibility remains of using the franchise tag on him.

Either way, the Chiefs could be facing some difficult financial choices if they want to keep Houston or Hudson, or both. Releasing Avery and Jenkins saved the Chiefs nearly $5 million, though it makes targeting a wide receiver in free agency or the draft a priority.
