Wildcats Fall to West Virginia

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The K-State baseball team fell behind by three runs after the first-inning-and-a-half on Friday while West Virginia’s Ross Vance walked six but surrendered just three hits in a complete game as the Wildcats dropped the second game of the series, 5-3, to the Mountaineers at Tointon Family Stadium.

K-State (13-15, 2-6 Big 12) managed to put a runner on base in all but one inning against Vance, but the redshirt junior forced K-State to go 2-for-16 with runners on and strand five.

“(Vance) got us last year, doing the same thing to us,” said K-State baseball head coach Brad Hill about the left-hander, who allowed one run in a seven-inning start against the Wildcats on April 27, 2014 in Morgantown. “He got to us early and frustration started to set in. There were not good adjustments by our hitters either. In the last three innings, we got some decent at-bats. We needed those at-bats, though, in the fourth inning – the second time through the order.”

The Mountaineers (17-11, 3-5 Big 12), who had 10 hits in the game, jumped on K-State starting pitcher Brandon Courville early, using back-to-back RBI hits with two outs in the first to make it 2-0. In the second, a leadoff double by Caleb Potter was converted into a run when Cam O’Brien hit an RBI single.

Royals to Continue Offering Free Wifi

stadium

KANSAS CITY -The Kansas City Royals will continue to offer free Wifi throughout Kauffman Stadium according to a media release.

The free WiFi platform was initially available at the end of the 2014 regular season and throughout the playoff run to the 2014 World Series. At its peak last year during the playoffs, the platform handled more than 16,000 devices connected at the same time.

The Royals and Major League Baseball Advanced Media (MLBAM) are providing venue-wide internet connections thanks to the additional of nearly 600 access points placed throughout the K.

In a news release the team said the new system will provide coverage at every seat and in every corner of the venue inside the gates at Kauffman Stadium.

The team says WiFi will continue to serve as an important foundation for the MLB.com “At Bat” and “Ballpark” applications, Royals social media platform engagement, seat upgrades, digital ticketing initiatives, and open fan use with their favorite content and applications. To access, fans can connect to “RoyalsWiFi” on their wireless device once inside the stadium.

The Royals and Major League Baseball remind fans that safety remains paramount and ask all fans at Kauffman Stadium to remain attentive to the action on the field at all times.

Marshall Staying at Wichit State

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) – Wichita State and head coach Gregg Marshall have reached an agreement on a deal that will keep him at the school, multiple sources said on Wednesday.

The deal is for seven years and is worth $3 million per year, sources said.

Marshall met with Alabama officials earlier in the week in Wichita. A source told ESPN’s Jeff Goodman that the school was making an offer in the neighborhood of $4 million per year.

Marshall had been the top choice of the Crimson Tide to replace Anthony Grant, who was fired last month.

“I received word tonight that Coach Gregg Marshall has chosen to remain the head basketball coach at Wichita State,” said Alabama director of athletics Bill Battle in statement. “I fully respect his decision and wish him and his family all the best. My objective in this search is focused on one goal: to get the best person available to lead the Alabama men’s basketball program. I remain determined to bring to our program a proven head coach with impressive credentials, one who understands and values our program, wants to lead our program, and is excited about what can be accomplished at the University of Alabama.”

Marshall said last year he was “very happy” at Wichita State, saying “it would take something really big” for him to leave. The Shockers have gone to four straight NCAA tournaments and advanced to the Sweet 16 two of the past three seasons.
