The Junction City Lady Jay softball team opened their season Thursday afternoon with a 14-4 win over Salina Central.
Salina Central opened the game with a 4-0 lead, after Haley Thomason hit a grand-slam in the top of the 1st inning off of Katie Hollibaugh. Salina Central would go on to not score any more runs in the game.
The Lady Jays did score one in the bottom of the 1st, but it wasn’t until the 3rd inning when Junction City came alive batting through their lineup and scoring seven runs to go up 8-4.
Junction City got the bats going again in the 5th inning scoring five runs to go up 13-4, once again batting through their lineup.
After a three up, three down top of the 6th inning the Lady Jays were able to score one more run in the bottom of the 6th to win via a run rule of the Lady Mustangs 14-4.

In game two Clay Center used a seven-run inning to open up a big lead on the Lady Jays, but starting in the fifth inning, trailing 10-0, Junction City started closing the gap. They did so with Lindsey Kramer collecting two hits, doubles by Britney Childs and Jamia Bell, and ohits by Olivia Diestelkamp, Katie Holibaugh, and Cortney Maury.
The Lady Jays wound up on the short end of the final score, though 12-7.
Junction City plays a doubleheader at Emporia on Friday.
