The Junction City Lady Jay captured first place in the season opening JCHS Invitational Friday at Al Simpler Stadium. In the boys competition the Blue Jay boys team finished sixth out of seven teams in the meet.
For the Lady Jays Alana Kramer took 1st in the
100 meter hurdles in 17.24, Myrissa Humphreys first in the 1600 meter run, 5:47, 36 and Brianna Pace in that same event in 5:47.57.
Kramer, a freshman said that she was nervous going in but those nerves subsided after they got going and things turned out better than she thought,”I was pretty nervous at the beginning but eventually once we started going I wasn’t as nervous and I just did my best.”
Humphreys also said she was nervous going into her race,”but we had a lot of support from our coach, had a lot of support from our team. So I’m just happy I finished the race, getting first is just a bonus.”
Tyra Gosha captured second in the 400 meter run in 63.11, and third in the High Jump with a jump of 4’8.” Ayi-lissa Dotson was second in the high jump at 4’8.” The 4 x 400 relay team finished first in 4:18.44, Raynell Wilson second in the Triple Jump at 32′ 10 3/4, and Jessyca Castro second in the Discus with a throw of 101 feet. The 4 x 100 relay team finished second in 53.42. Shamya Banks, Nateshia Smith, Kaitlyn Cross, and Raynell Wilson comprised that relay team.
For the Blue Jay boys the 4 x 800 meter relay team of Isiah Taylor, Evan Hallum, Anthony DelTufo, and Nick Arneson finished second in 8:44.18, Raye Wilson finished third in the 200 meter dash in 22.66 and Jovan Baldwin fourth in the same race in 22.71. Baldwin was also third in the 100 meter dash in 10.85.
Great Bend won the boys team title.
