QUICK HITTERS
- Kansas State (15-14, 4-12 Big 12) plays its final regular-season home game on Wednesday, as the Wildcats welcome TCU (11-18, 2-14 Big 12) to Bramlage Coliseum on Senior Night for a 7 p.m. CT tipoff.
- K-State will be looking to sweep the season series for the first time since 2014 after posting a 63-49 win over TCU on Feb. 16. The Wildcats own a 9-4 record in the series, including a 5-1 mark at home.
- Wednesday’s contest will be the last at home for three seniors — Justin Edwards, Stephen Hurt and Brian Rohleder — as well as manager Jaron Randle, as each will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.
- Edwards and Hurt played 2 seasons at K-State after transferring from Maine and Northwest Florida Junior College, respectively, while Rohleder is wrapping up a 5-year career which began as a walk-on in 2011-12.
- Regardless of this week’s outcomes, K-State will be playing in the first round of next’s week’s Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship set for the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo. The Wildcats can be the No. 8, 9 or 10 seed with the No. 8/9 seeds playing Wednesday, March 9 at 6 p.m. CT and No. 10 seed playing No. 7 seed Texas Tech following at 8:30 p.m. CT.
- Including Wednesday’s game with TCU and the finale at Texas Tech (18-10, 8-8 Big 12), K-State will play consecutive unranked opponents for just the second time since the start of Big 12 play. The Wildcats are 14-2 against unranked teams this season, including 11-0 at Bramlage Coliseum.
- K-State owns the 14th-best strength of schedule and has played a school-record 13 Top 25 opponents, including 11 in Big 12 play. Thirteen of the 14 losses have come to teams that are currently ranked in the AP Top 25, including 6 in Top 10, with a combined record of 175-58 (.751).
- K-State is 11-5 at Bramlage Coliseum (12-5 at home overall) with its only losses coming to Top 25 foes West Virginia, Iowa State, Baylor, Kansas and Texas. The current 3-game losing streak at home is the longest since also dropping 3 straight from Feb. 5-19, 2005.
- K-State has improved nearly every offensive category from 2014-15, surpassing marks for scoring, field goals, 3-point field goals, points in the paint, second-chance points, rebounds, blocks and steals. The 219 steals are the 10th-most in school history and the most since 247 in 2012-13.
- One of the youngest teams in the country, K-State has had at least 2 true freshmen start together in 25 of 29 games (12 of 16 Big 12 games), while there has been at least one freshman starter in all 29 games.

Jayhawks Roll Past Texas
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) – Perry Ellis scored 20 points and top-ranked Kansas rolled over No. 23 Texas 86-56 on Monday night, an emphatic exclamation point that clinched the outright Big 12 championship for the Jayhawks.
Kansas had already earned at least a share of a 12th straight crown and settled the question of whether they would get to claim it as their own in the opening minutes with a barrage of 3-pointers, a steady diet of points from Ellis and defense that gave Texas nothing easy.
The Jayhawks (26-4, 14-3) made 11 3-pointers, led by 24 points by halftime and sent Texas’ sellout home crowd headed to the exits early. Ellis finished 9 of 11 from the field.
Frank Mason III added 14 points for Kansas.
Javan Felix scored 13 points for Texas (19-11, 10-7), which has never beaten a No. 1-ranked opponent in nine tries.
Kansas Back on Top in AP Men’s Top 25
Kansas is back on top of the men’s college basketball poll by The Associated Press. Villanova had been No. 1 the past three weeks.
The Jayhawks are 25-4 and were No. 1 for two weeks in January. On Monday, they were a runaway choice, receiving 63 first-place votes from the 65-member national media panel.
Michigan State is 24-5 and was No. 1 for a season-best four weeks. The Spartans drew the other two first-place votes.
Villanova lost to Xavier last week and fell two spots to third. The Wildcats were followed in the top 10 by Virginia, Xavier, Oklahoma, Miami, North Carolina, Oregon and West Virginia. This is Oregon’s first appearance in the top 10 this season.
California was ranked in three polls earlier this season and is the week’s only newcomer at No. 25. The Bears replace Notre Dame, which fell out from 23rd.

Consolation Semifinals

#220 Jefferey Walters, JCHS Junior (11-23), lost by fall to Brandon Huntley, Olathe North Senior (22-14). Walters finishes his season with a final record of 11-24.
Colon, Orlando Among Six Royals Signees
SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) – Infielder Christian Colon, who drove in the go-ahead run in the clinching Game 5 of the World Series, and outfielder Paulo Orlando, who hit .248 in 86 games as a rookie, were among six Kansas City Royals players agreeing to terms Sunday for a one-year contract.
Colon will receive $518,425, while Orlando will receive $514,250. Left-handed pitcher Brian Flynn, who threw only one inning last year because of an injury and appeared in six games in 2013-14 with the Miami Marlins, signed for $515,950. Outfielder Reymond Fuentes, who hit .152 in 23 games in 2013 with San Diego, signed for $508,450
Left-hander Matt Strahm and infielder Ramon Torres, who have never appeared in the majors, signed for the minimum $507,500.
With these signings, all Royals on the 40-man roster are under contract for 2016.
Blue Jay Wrestler Completes Perfect 18-0 Season with State Title at 160 lbs
After having to sit out the first half of this season due to an injury he suffered during football season Junction City’s Aryus Jones completed a perfect season and earned his first ever State Championship.
Jones suffered a compound fracture in his left leg during a mid-October football practice that kept him from wrestling
the first half of the season.
“When you break your leg, you start to realize how many things you take for granted and stuff,” explained Jones. “I couldn’t even walk for the longest time and to see how much I’ve progressed since late October to now, it’s incredible.”
Months of rehab allowed him to return about mid-season and the chase to the championship was on.
“I just couldn’t stand going to wrestling tournaments and watching my teammates perform without me, watch people at #160 win, and it just drove me crazy to think that I could be out there, I could be doing that.”
Jones was the only Blue Jay to advance to the championship finals in the State Tournament this year, picking up wins by tech fall, major decision and a decision on his way to the championship. In that final match Jones went up against Trent Miles of Washburn Rural, a wrestler he’d faced twice prior, once at the centennial league tournament where Jones won by tech fall, and again at regionals where Jones won in a 10-7 decision.
The championship match appeared to be the perfect opportunity for Miles to pull off the upset, but Jones wasn’t going to let that happen, and in fact the match was over just about as fast as it started with Jones picking up the win via fall in :30 seconds.
“I knew going in there that he had seen a couple of takedowns before, because we had wrestled a couple of times. I thought this kid is going to be tough, so I snapped his head down, saw the open leg and went for it. Had a little bit of a scramble, at about the end of it I saw his head close to his knee, and I figured why not go for a cradle and try to end it fast, and I ended up getting it.”
Jones can now take a small break and enjoy the offseason as the Class 6A State Champion at 160 pounds, but he don’t expect that break to be real long as he plans to get right back at it to begin preparing for next season, as he will look to defend his title as a senior at Junction City High School.
Jayhawks Clinch at Least A Share of Big 12 Title
LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) – Svi Mykhailiuk came off the bench to score 17 points, Frank Mason III added 16 and No. 2 Kansas beat Texas Tech 67-58 on Saturday to secure at least a share of its 12th straight Big 12 title.
Mykhailiuk hit five 3-pointers and didn’t miss a shot until the final minute, helping the Jayhawks (25-4, 13-3) extend one of the most remarkable streaks in major college basketball.
The only school to win more consecutive conference championships was UCLA, which won 13 in a row during the 1960s and ’70s. The Jayhawks can win their eighth outright title during their streak with a win Monday night at No. 25 Texas or in their regular-season finale against No. 17 Iowa State.
Toddrick Gotcher hit five 3s and led the Red Raiders (18-10, 8-8) with 20 points.
