Blue Jay Bowling Teams Compete in Wichita

The Junction City Blue Jay bowling teams competed Saturday in a tournament hosted by Bishop Carroll.

JCHS Athletic Director Matt Westerhaus reported via social media that the girls team placed third out of 24 teams, while in the boys competition Junction City finished fourth out of 24 teams. It was the season opening tournament for the Junction City teams.

 

 

Blue Wrestlers Sweep Double Dual

The Junction City Blue Jay wrestling team defeated Rossville and Wellington in dual action Friday night.

According to a social media feed by JCHS Athletic Director Matt Westerhaus, Junction CIty defeated Rossville 56-23 and Wellington by a score of 60-12.

Going 2-0 for Junction City were Zane Thornton at 120 pounds, Matthew Whitton at 126, Max Bazan at 132, Logan Roether at 138, CJ Neuman in the 145 pound weight class, Sadiki Smith at 170, Terrance Adeleye at 182 pounds, Kenson Henderson at 220, and Matthew Wienke in the 285 pound class.

Blue Jays Fall on Late Bucket

Trent Cox scored a bucket with 7.1 seconds remaining for Seaman to give the Vikings a 50-48 lead over the Junction City Blue Jays. On the ensuing play the Blue Jays committed a turnover and the Vikings held on for the two point win Friday night in Topeka.

Seaman ( 4-3 ) was led by Kobe Bonner with 15 points in a game which saw the lead see-saw back and forth. A.J. Dickerson helped power a Junction City rally in the fourth quarter, and finished the game with 20 points for the Blue Jays ( 3-4 ).

In girls action Junction City pulled off a 43-40 victory over Seaman. Alana Kramer turned in a big game with 20 points for the Lady Jays ( 2-5 ). Junction City also got four 3-point baskets from Brianna Jensen.

Junction City teams will host Washburn Rural Tuesday night.

 

Blue Jays and Lady Jays Fall to Topeka West

The Junction City High School basketball teams fell to Topeka West Thursday night in the capitol city.

In the girls game the Chargers overcame the loss of three players and held off a late Junction City rally to win 43-40. The Lady Jays had trailed by nine in the fourth but rallied back to within one point at 41-40 before losing and falling to 1-5 on the season.

Alana Kramer led Junction City in scoring with 18 points.

In the boys game the Blue Jays struggled against pressure in the third quarter and fell behind by 16 points early in the fourth, but in the closing minutes on the strength of four three-point baskets Junction City battled back to within two. Then down the stretch Koriyon Carr of Topeka West hit seven of eight free throws as the Chargers preserved the win by the final score of 56-48.

Junction City fell to 3-3 on the season.

The JCHS teams play at Seaman on Friday.

Holiday Break for High School Sports Teams

Area high school sports teams are on their holiday break. Practices can resume on December 28th.

For the Junction City High School winter sports teams the schedule finds the Lady Jay and Blue Jay basketball teams at Topeka West on January 4th and at Seaman on January 5th.

The Blue Jay wrestling team competes January 5th at Rossville and January 6th at the Salina South Invitational.

The JCHS boys swimming tem goes to the Salina South Invitational on January 4th.

Blue Jays Fourth at Emporia

The Junction City Blue Jays finished fourth out of 11 teams in a tournament hosted by Emporia High School this past Saturday.

Maize won the tournament with a score of 221 points followed by Emporia at 212, Hutchinson 170.5 and Junction City with 159 points.

For the Blue Jays highlights included second place finishes by Blayne Danford at 113 pounds, Logan Roether at 138 pounds and C.J. Neuman at 145 pounds.

Max Bazan finished third at 132 pounds, Sadiki Smith third at 170, Terrance Adeleye third at 182, Arturo Chavez third at 195 pounds and Matt Wienke third at 285 pounds.

Manhattan Rolls to Basketball Wins Over Junction City

The Manhattan Indians used stingy defense to defeat the Junction City Blue Jays 46-36 in boys basketball at the Shenk Gym Friday night.

Manhattan led by five points at halftime and outscored the Blue Jays 30-24 in the second half. Junction City was led in scoring by A.J. Dickerson and Aaron Hamilton with 9 points apiece.

In the girls game Manhattan, the defending Class 6A state champions, rolled to a 74-30 victory over the Lady Jays. Manhattan jumped out to a 20-11 first quarter lead and pulled away.

The Junction City teams have completed their December schedules.

Blue Jay Wrestlers 4th out of 14 Teams

Four Junction City Blue Jay wrestlers placed in the top three of their weight class at the Shawnee Mission Northwest Invitational on Saturday.

According to JCHS Athletic Director Junction City finished 4th out of 14 teams in the tournament.

For the Blue Jays Terrance Adeleye finished first at 182 pounds, Max Bazan second at 132, Matthew Whitton third at 126, and Kenson Henderson third at 220 pounds.

Blue Jays – Lady Jays Win Home Openers

The Junction City Blue Jays made ten 3-point shots enroute to a 49-39 victory over the Great Bend Panthers ( 1-3 ) at the Shenk Gym on Friday night.

A. J. Dickerson led the attack for the Blue Jays, hitting five of those three-pointers and leading the team with 19 points. Junction City took the lead in the first half and gradually pulled away in the late minutes of the ballgame to improve to 2-1 on the season. Aaron Hamilton connected on a trio of 3-point shots, while Kody Westerhaus and DeAndre Eaves both connected on one.

Blue Jay coach Nick Perez said the team played with some passion. The shooting is better for the team this season, “in practice and games. I tell my shooters get your feet set, let it go.”

In girls action Junction City ( 1-2 ) came away with a 69-63 victory over Great Bend ( 1-3 ).  Lady Jay coach Derek Petty saw Alana Kramer score 16 points for Junction City. “Her strength is getting to the basket and that’s what she did tonight.”

Junction City teams host Hays Tuesday night.

Blue Jays – Lady Jays Lose to Salina Central

The Salina Central Mustangs ( 2-0 )outscored the Junction City Blue Jays 14-3 in the second quarter with the only  Blue Jay points coming on a 3-point basket by Kody Westerhaus with about 1:40 remaining in the first half.

End result….Salina Central rolled on to a 55-33 victory over Junction City.

Blue Jay coach Nick Perez thought his team played great defensively in the first half but in the second half there were problems. “We just started jacking shots. We’re not going to win any games doing that. When the ball sticks in your hands it just doesn’t happen, and that’s on me as a head coach. I’ve got to get our offense flowing.

The Blue Jays ( 1-1 ) were led in scoring by A.J. Dickerson with 11 points.

The Junction City Lady Jays fell to Salina Central 66-38.

Salina Central ( 2-0 ) jumped out to a 16-6 lead and never trailed from that point on.

Post player Elisa Backes scored 28 points while the Lady Jays got 16 from Alana Kramer and 12 from Gabriela Martinez. Numerous missed shots in and around the basket were a problem in the ballgame for the Lady Jays ( 0-2 ).
