JCHS hosted the Bob Schmoeckel Invitational on Monday

Milford State Park served as the site for the Bob Schmoeckel Cross Country Invitational on Monday. Manhattan took home the team title with the low score of 25 points in the varsity girls race and 26 in the boys varsity competition.

For Junction City the top runner on the girls side was Cassidy Eschliman who covered the course in 24:47.3. She finished 27th. For the Blue Jay boys the top finisher was Blake Reed who finished 23rd in 19:30.3. Isaiah Smith was 25th in 19:52.7.

JCHS Coach Ryan Norton felt his squad looked a little sluggish. “You could tell we had a switch of the schedule. We looked a little sluggish out there with the schedule change. We did the best we could do today.” The meet had been postponed from this past Saturday due to rain.

Daniel Harkin of Manhattan won the boys race in 16:46.6 while Zoie Ecord of Maize won the girls race in 20:06.2.

In the girls team scoring Manhattan had 25 points, Maize 54, Hutchinson 72, Hays 78 and Clay Center 140. Flint Hills Christian, Junction City and Salina South also had runners competing.

In the boys team scoring Manhattan finished with 26 points followed by Clay Center with 59, Maize 63, Hutchinson 122, Salina South 126, Junction City 147 and Hays 173. Flint Hills Christian and Highland Park also had runners.

Two JCHS sports programs will be in action Monday

The JCHS Bob Schmoeckel Invitational will be held Monday at Milford State Park beginning at 4 p.m. This meet was originally scheduled this past Saturday but had to be postponed until Monday due to rain.

Also, the JCHS girls tennis team will compete in a tournament at the Topeka Kossover facility beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Blue Jays roll past Highland Park 76-8 on Homecoming night at JCHS

The Junction City Blue Jays opened the scoring with a 50-yard touchdown pass play from Andrew Khoury to Qua’Vez Humphreys with 11:17 remaining in the first quarter and proceeded to a 50-0 halftime lead against Highland Park before winning 76-8. There was a running clock the entire second half at Al Simpler Stadium.

Junction City ( 5-0 ) used a substantial number of plays against the Scots ( 0-5 ) , who only had 18 players available to play the game.

Blue Jay coach Randall Zimmerman felt good about the play of his team during the Homecoming game at JCHS. “I think we came out and were fairly crisp early, got things done, got those older guys off the field fairly early. ” Zimmerman added Junction City played all the kids they suited up for the ballgame.

The Homecoming Royalty were crowned at halftime of the game. Albert Caba was named the Senior Class King and Laynee Chase Senior Class Queen.

The prince and princesses were named for the freshman, sophomore and junior classes. For the juniors they Key’Ahn Taylor, prince, and Taylor Strickland, princess; sophomores included Davario Torres, prince, and Akasha Schlicht, princess; and for the freshman Tate Miller was named the prince and Rachel Cho, princess.

 

Lady Jay golf finishes second in their own invitational

The Junction City Lady Jay golf team finished second in their own invitational at Rolling Meadows Golf Course on Thursday.

Leading the way for Junction City was Taylor Bistodeau, who turned in a second place finish with a round of 48. Also for Junction City Olivia Oliver finished 10th with a 62, Katie Beamer shot a 64 and Leilah Meinen a 68.

Hayden won the team title.

Lady Jay volleyball competes in a quadrangular

The Junction City Lady Jay volleyball team defeated Wichita Heights on Thursday 14-25, 25-18, 25-19.

During the quadrangular hosted by Wichita Heights the Lady Jays also lost to an undefeated Maize South team 25-18, 25-16 and to Garden City 25-13, 25-17.

Junction City is 11-11 on the season and will play at Topeka High on Tuesday.
