The Junction City Blue Jay soccer team defeated Wichita Independent Wednesday evening at Al Simpler Stadium. The final score was 10-0.
According to Blue Jay Athletics Twitter the Junction City Lady Jays will play in a Class 6A substate volleyball tournament at Washburn Rural on Saturday, Oct. 26.
The Junction City Blue Jays used a 58-yard pass play to help set up an early touchdown, scored on an 11-yard pass play and got a big defensive stop at the one yard line, all in the first half to move out to a 14-0 halftime lead over the Seaman Vikings.
In the second half the Blue Jays scored on a 10-yard touchdown run by DJ Giddens, a 37 yard touchdown pass to Quavez Humphreys and a 30 yard touchdown pass play to Marcello Bussey to wrap up the win in a 34-7 victory over the Vikings on Senior Night at Al Simpler Stadium.
Junction City improved to 6-1 with the win while Seaman fell to 2-5.
The Blue Jays play at Emporia next Friday to wrap up the regular season. Postseason playoffs begin in two weeks.
Valley View Senior Life in Junction City hosted Football Frenzy Tuesday evening featuring the Junction City High School Blue Jays and Junction City Junior Jays for practice, fun and food.
The Junior Jays held their team practices on the front lawn for the residents to watch, players got the opportunity to visit with the residents, and food was served.

Undefeated, 5-0 Junction City, will square off against 4-1 Manhattan in football Friday night at Bishop Stadium in Manhattan.
Blue Jay coach Randall Zimmerman said he hoped that he had done enough to prepare his players for this game. “The new kids that had no idea what it’s like, I hope we’ve done enough to get them mentally ready to go.
Zimmerman noted there’s a lot on the line in this game. “There’s a lot on the line for playoffs, for league standings, pride for a lifetime. and all those kind of things.”
The winner of the game will possess the Sportsmanship Trophy for the next year. It is awarded to the winner of this game each year. Junction City won in 2018 by a score of 9-7.
Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. You can hear the game on 107.9 FM and 1420 KJCK with the pregame show beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Two other Junction City sports related events were postponed or cancelled.
According to Blue Jay Athletics Twitter the varsity league girls tennis tournament was postponed from Thursday until today ( Friday ).
The bonfire pep rally planned Thursday evening on the football practice field was cancelled. An announcement regarding a possible reschedule date will be made at a later time.
The Junction City Lady Jay volleyball team defeated Topeka High 22-25, 25-16, 25-16 but lost to Seaman 25-13, 25-22.
Junction City is now 12-12 on the season. They will compete in Atchison on Saturday.
The team will also hold their Senior Night recognition at about 7 p.m. on Monday during the final freshman home triangular.

The Junction City Lady Jay tennis team traveled to Topeka on Monday for the Centennial League Tournament. Krysta Talley, in the singles bracket, and the doubles team of Anna Torres and Sierra Stage both ended the day as the high finishers for the Lady Jays in 14th place. Both had 2-4 records. Elyse Nguyen finshed 16th with a 1-4 record. The doubles team of Avery Jacobsen and Lucy Ramirez finished in 17th place with a 1-4 record.
As a team Junction CIty finished in 8th place. Manhattan took home the team championship. The Lady Jays next travel to Wichita for regionals this Saturday, October 12. Matches will begin at 9 am.
