Lady Jay Soccer Defeats Highland Park

The Junction City Lady Jay soccer team defeated Highland Park 3-0 Thursday at Al Simpler Stadium.

JCHS Athletic Director Matt Westerhaus reported on his Blue Jay Athletics twitter feed that with the win the Lady Jays improved to 4-2 on the season.

Their next match is at home on Monday against Hays.

Lady Jays Fall to Hayden

The Hayden Wildcats ( 2-4 ) defeated the Junction City Lady Jay softball team 11-1 in five innings and 5-1 in a doubleheader at Cleary Field Thursday evening.

Lady Jay Head Coach Aaron Craig saw his team improve from game one to game two. Referring to puzzles Craig noted each person does a puzzle their own way. He noted the point of that is that every player is different. “But once they come together and starting the putting pieces together as consistently as a group and find a way to co-exist with their differences this group has the potential to do some good things.”

Junction City ( 0-6 ) plays in Topeka against the Topeka High Trojans next Friday.

Lady Jay Soccer Wins

The Junction City Lady Jay soccer team defeated Wichita Independent 2-1 in overtime Wednesday evening at Al Simpler Stadium.

According to JCHS Athletic Director Matt Westerhaus Mindy Lechuga put in the match winning goal with five minutes left in the first overtime. It was her second goal of the night.

Blue Jays Sweep Garden City in Baseball

The Junction City Blue Jays defeated the Garden City Buffaloes 11-1 in game one of a doubleheader at Rathert Field on Wednesday. Thane McDaniel pitched a complete game for the Blue Jays.

In game two Junction City rallied from an early 3-0 deficit to win 14-4. Ashton Wiegand came into the game after the Blue Jays fell behind and pitched the rest of the way for Junction City. The Blue Jays are now 4-0 on the season.

The doubleheader was a make up from two earlier game dates that had to be rescheduled due to cold weather.

The Junction City Lady Jay softball team hosts Hayden in a doubleheader on Thursday at Cleary Field. The first game begins at 4 p.m. That game will be broadcast on the 1420 KJCK AM.

Games will be played on 4-11-18

JV at Rathert – 4pm start

V on the road at Hayden High School 3pm start.

There are a series of athletic contest postponements for Junction City High School on Tuesday.

The Blue Jay varsity baseball team’s home doubleheader with Garden City has been rescheduled to Wednesday at 3 p.m.

The girls varsity soccer home match against Independent has been rescheduled to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The boys junior varsity tennis at Manhattan has been postponed. It will be made up at a date to be determined.

 

Junction City Boys and Girls Basketball Skill Academy

There will be a basketball fundamental skills camp for third through sixth grade boys and girls at the Shenk Gymnasium at Junction City High School.

The camp will be conducted by JCHS staff. The dates will be April 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th plus May 2nd. The cost will be $20, which includes all five sessions and a t-shirt. Make checks payable to Jays Basketball.

JCHS Sports Results

The Junction City Lady Jay softball team ( 0-4 ) fell to Emporia Friday by the scores of 7-0 and 16-0 in four innings.

The teams played in Emporia.

The Lady Jay soccer lost to Wichita West on Thursday 1-0 but defeated El Dorado 6-0 on Tuesday.

 

Junction City Track Teams Bring Home First in JCHS Invitational

The Junction City Lady Jays rolled up 187-and-a-half points to capture first place while the Blue Jay boys scored 159-and-a-half points enroute to a first place finish in the JCHS Invitational at Al Simpler Stadium on Friday.

For the Lady Jays in the discus throw Hannah Reynolds finished first in 128′-04,” Savannah Adams finished second in the javelin at 101-04, Hannah Reynolds won the shot put with a throw of 36-02, Sherrie Jones second at 34-08 and Savannah Adams third at 34-07.

Kienna Newman won the 100 meter hurdles in 15.81 and the 300 meter hurdles in 49.50,  Lyric Holman was second in the 100 meter dash in 12.61 and in the 200 meter dash in 27.20, Nyla Blagrove third at 13.42 and Kaila Anderson fourth at 14.03.  Michelle Sanchez was second in the 800 meter run in 2:31.19 and second in the 3200 meter run in 12:53.35.

For the Blue Jays in the triple jump Antonio Porter was second in 41-05 and Leslie Etheridge third in 41-04, Jamarcus Plato first in the 110 meter hurdles in 15.45, first in the 300 meter hurdles in 40.23, Izayiah Moore won the 100 meter dash in 11.04, Ian Sanchez was second in that event in 11.25, and Chris Randolph fourth in 11.55. Juan Tovar won the 800 meter run in 2:09.14 and finished third in the 1600 meter run in 4:50.08.  Izayiah Moore finished first in the 200 meters in 22.96, Ian Sanchez second in 22.97 and Chris Randolph fourth in 23.98.

In the boys team scoring Junction City had 159.5 points followed by Shawnee Heights with 106, Great Bend 88, Salina South with 95, Salina Central 67, Tonganoxie 53.50 and Kansas City Turner 31.

In the girls team scoring Junction City finished with 187.50, Salina Central 95, Great Bend 93, Shawnee Heights 76.50, Tonganoxie 61, Salina South 52 and Kansas City Turner 29 points.

Blue Jays Sweep Emporia in Baseball

Thane McDaniel pitched six and one-third innings enroute to a 5-0 shutout of the Emporia Spartans ( 0-2 )  in the first game of a doubleheader at Rathert Field. Easton Rindt hit a two-run home run and had three rbi’s in the victory for Junction City.

In game two Ashton Wiegand got the pitching win as Junction City defeated Emporia 7-2.

Coach Pat Stivers said he thought all of the Blue Jay pitchers did a good job. “Of course Thane, Ashton did a great job. Both of them threw strikes when they needed to. We let some at-bats get away from us and had some walks that we need to do a better job of, but all in all I thought our pitching was good tonight.”

The wins came in the season opener for Junction City, who will host Garden City on Tuesday.

Lady Jays Drop Season Opening Doubleheader

The Junction City Lady Jay opened their 2018 softball season Thursday at Cleary FIeld with a pair of losses.

In game one Junction City was defeated by Salina Central 22-7, and the Lady Jays played better but still came up short in their second game, losing to Clay Center 11-5.  Clay Center also defeated Salina Central in the triangular.

The Lady Jays play at Emporia on Friday.

The Blue Jay baseball team hosts Emporia on Friday. The varsity doubleheader at Rathert Field begins at 4 p.m. You can hear the first game on 1420 KJCK AM, beginning at 3:50 p.m.
