The Junction City Blue Jay boys swimming meet that was postponed on Tuesday in Topeka has been rescheduled for Monday, January 28th.
JCHS Athletic Director Matt Westerhaus announced that It will begin at 4 p.m. at the Capitol Federal Natatorium.
The Junction City Blue Jays meet the Derby Panthers in the first round of the 76th annual Tournament of Champions in Dodge City on Thursday.
Game time is 2 p.m. You can hear the broadcast on 107.9 FM and 1420 KJCK.
The other first round matchups include Dodge City against Hutchinson. Shawnee Mission South vs. Wichita North and Bishop Carroll against Newton. The tournament continues Friday and Saturday at the United Wireless Arena.
If the Blue Jays win on Thursday they would meet the winner of Dodge City – Hutchinson on Friday, and a loss to Derby would send them up against the loser of the Dodge City – Hutchinson game on Friday.
Junction City led Hayden 9-7 in the first quarter but then the Wildcats steadily took advantage of turnovers and the strong shooting of senior post player Brooklyn Hunter to roll to a 67-24 victory over the Lady Jays at the Shenk Gym. There was a running clock in the fourth quarter due the margin of Hayden’s lead exceeding 30 points.
Hayden ( 2-7 ) got 29 points from Hunter. who was able to grab a number of rebounds and get shots close to the backboard and rim. Junction City ( 0-8 ) was led by Mellana Davis with 9 points while Andrea Davis had 8.
The Lady Jays play at Washburn Rural on Friday night. The starting times have been moved to get the games over with before an anticipated winter storm hits. The Lady Jay varsity is expected to play about 5;30 p.m., the JV at 4 p.m. and the 9th grade girls also at 5:30 p.m.
The Junction City Blue Jays finished fifth out of 30 teams in the Bobcat Invitational at Basehor-Linwood High School.
Junction City scored 115 points in the two-day tournament. Bonner Springs finished first with 232 points followed by St. Thomas Aquinas with 167.5, Mill Valley 140.5 and Abilene with 130.5.
In the individual weight classes for Junction City the Blue Jay coach Bob Laster reported that Terrance Adeleye finished second at 195 pounds, Matthew Whitton 7th at 138, C.J.Neuman 7th at 152, Sadicki Smith 7th at 170, Chris Owen 8th in the 182 pound weight class and Arturo Chavez 8th at 220 pounds.
The Junction City Blue Jay wrestling team began competition in the Basehor-Linwood Invitational on Saturday in fifth place out of 30 teams in the tournament.
Terance Adeleye of Junction City has advanced into the finals of the 195 pound weight class competition. Other Blue Jays still in the tournament on Saturday included Blaine Danforth at 120 pounds, Matthew Whitton 138, C.J. Neuman at 152, Sadiki Smith 170, Chris Owen 182 and Arturo Chavez at 220 pounds.
The Invitational began on Friday.
The Junction City High School basketball games with Emporia that were scheduled Friday night at the Shenk Gym have been postponed until February 2nd.

The JV wrestling tournament scheduled for Saturday in Hays has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled.
The Seaman Vikings ( 6-1 ) began to pull away from the Junction City Blue Jays ( 4-3 ) late in the third quarter and never trailed in the fourth quarter enroute to a 73-59 win over the Blue Jays in Topeka Tuesday night.
The Vikings had a strong inside-outside attack with post player Trey Duffey and point guard Kobe Bonner. Bonner finished with 27 points and Duffey 21 points in the victory.
Blue Jay coach Nick Perez also wasn’t happy with Junction City’s start at the beginning of the game when the Blue Jays fell behind before rallying to take the lead in the second quarter. “We’ve just got to do a better job of coming out of the gate and sustain that. Kody ( Westerhaus ) hit a three, A.J. ( Dickerson ) hit a couple of threes, and then all of a sudden we’re running. And then we get stagnant or we give up a layup. We don’t guard very good and that’s what I told the guys, we’ve got to get better defensively.
Junction City hosts Emporia on Friday.

In the girls game Seaman ( 5-2 ) led start to finish enroute to a 66-23 win over the Lady Jays ( 0-7 ). There was a running clock in the fourth quarter in that ballgame because Seaman led by 30 points or more.
The Lady Jays also host Emporia Friday night.
The Junction City Blue Jay boys basketball team will open against the Derby Panthers in the first round of the Tournament of Champions in Dodge City on January 17th.
The Blue Jays ( 4-2 ) will play Derby ( 1-5 ) at 2 p.m. on the 17th. The other first round game on the same side of the bracket as Junction City, finds Dodge City playing Hutchinson. The other half of the opening day lineup includes Shawnee Mission South against Wichita North, and Bishop Carroll vs. Newton.
The tournament will continue on Friday and Saturday, the 18th and 19th.
The Junction City Blue Jays finished second out of five teams in the Salina South Invitational on Saturday. Colby finished first with 151.5 points followed by Junction City with 140, Salina Central 108, Salina South 87 and Plainville with 81 points.
In the individual weight class competition, Terance Adeleye of Junction City finished first at 195 pounds.
Finishing second in their weight class for the Blue Jays were Hayden Diestelkamp at 106 pounds, Anthony Petrusky at 132 pounds, C. J. Neuman at 152, and Arturo Chavez at 220 pounds.
The Junction City Blue Jays defeated Wellington 40-25 and lost to Rossville 36-33 in a double wrestling dual at Rossville Friday evening.
Coach Bob Laster said three Blue Jay wrestlers went 2-0 in matches. They included C.J. Neuman at 152 pounds, Elias Robinson at 170 and Terrance Adeleye at 195 pounds.
The Blue Jays compete in a tournament at Salina South on Saturday.
