Seaman Vikings defeat the Junction City Blue Jays

The Seaman Vikings ( 6-1 ) began to pull away from the Junction City Blue Jays ( 4-3 ) late in the third quarter and never trailed in the fourth quarter enroute to a 73-59 win over the Blue Jays in Topeka Tuesday night.

The Vikings had a strong inside-outside attack with post player Trey Duffey and point guard Kobe Bonner. Bonner finished with 27 points and Duffey 21 points in the victory.

Blue Jay coach Nick Perez also wasn’t happy with Junction City’s start at the beginning of the game when the Blue Jays fell behind before rallying to take the lead in the second quarter. “We’ve just got to do a better job of coming out of the gate and sustain that. Kody ( Westerhaus ) hit a three, A.J. ( Dickerson ) hit a couple of threes, and then all of a sudden we’re running. And then we get stagnant or we give up a layup. We don’t guard very good and that’s what I told the guys, we’ve got to get better defensively.

Junction City hosts Emporia on Friday.

In the girls game Seaman ( 5-2 )  led start to finish enroute to a 66-23 win over the Lady Jays ( 0-7 ). There was a running clock in the fourth quarter in that ballgame because Seaman led by 30 points or more.

The Lady Jays also host Emporia Friday night.
