A 21-year old Kansas State basketball player Thomas Gipson III, was arrested Wednesday in Geary County on suspicion of Driving While Driver’s License was Revoked, and Speeding.

That information was confirmed by Geary County Sheriff Tony Wolf, who reported that Gipson was stopped at 11:56 a.m. near the U.S. Highway 77 and I-70 intersection in a Chevrolet Trailblazer for allegedly speeding 80-miles-per-hour in a 65-mile-per-hour speed zone. After authorities ran a check on Gipson’s driver’s license, he was then arrested.

Gipson was booked at the Geary County Detention Center, and then released on $1,000 bond. No court date has been announced in the case.

This past season for the 20-13 Wildcats, Gipson started 28 games and averaged 11.5 points. He is a three-year letterman for Kansas State, and will be a senior this upcoming season.

Chiefs Hope Pass-Rush Package Will Pay Off

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) – The Kansas City Chiefs offered a preview during recent 11-on-11 training football clip artcamp practices of what could be in store for unsuspecting quarterbacks this season.
Pro Bowl linebackers Tamba Hali and Justin Houston, first-round draft pick Dee Ford and fellow pass-rusher Josh Martin all trotted onto the field at the same time, leaving defensive tackle Dontari Poe as the lone down lineman in a unique scheme designed to create pressure.

Elsewhere in the NFL, similar personnel groups are known as “NASCAR packages” – the idea is that they overwhelm the opposing offense with their speed.

“We call it the ‘dog front,”‘ Hali said. “A bunch of dogs going after (the quarterback).”

Lester Leads Athletics Past Royals

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Jon Lester pitched six strong innings and Josh Donaldson homered kcrtwice and drove in four runs as the Oakland Athletics beat Kansas City 11-3 Tuesday night, snapping the Royals’ eight-game winning streak.

Lester has won all three of his start since the A’s acquired him in July 31 trade for All-Star outfielder Yoenis Cespedes. Lester struck out nine and allowed three runs on six hits and two walks.

The Royals have won 11 of 13 with both losses to Lester, who is 9-3 with a 1.84 ERA in 13 career starts against Kansas City.

Donaldson homered in the seventh and eighth off left-hander Bruce Chen for his third multi-homer game of the season.

Royals starter Jeremy Guthrie allowed six runs on 11 hits in 4 2-3 innings.

Chiefs’ Eric Berry Leaves Practice with Heal Pain

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) – Pro Bowl safety Eric Berry left the Chiefs’ practice for the second time this football clip arttraining camp on Tuesday as he continues to be bothered by tendinitis in his right heel.

Berry missed a few days of practice last week with the heel injury. He eventually returned to workouts but did not play in the Chiefs’ preseason opener against Cincinnati.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid said that the team will continue to monitor Berry and rest him as needed, though it’s unclear when he’ll return. Kansas City plays at Carolina on Sunday.

Defensive end Mike Catapano also left practice with the same illness that has sidelined him for much of training camp. Kicker Ryan Succop remained out with groin inflammation.

Royals Get Willingham from Twins for Minor League Pitcher

kcr twoKANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – The Royals have acquired outfielder Josh Willingham from the Twins for minor league pitcher Jason Adam in an attempt to bolster their offense for the stretch run.

The move was made shortly before the Royals, winners of seven straight, opened a four-game series against AL West-leading Oakland on Monday night. Kansas City had climbed into the second wild-card spot and was just a half-game behind Detroit in the AL Central entering the day.

Willingham was hitting just .210 for the Twins this season, but his 12 homers in limited at-bats were appealing for a Royals club that has struggled to find power.

He hit a career-best 35 homers with 110 RBIs two years ago.

Adam is 5-9 with a 4.67 ERA with Double-A Northwest Arkansas and Triple-A Omaha this season.
