K-State Announces Future Non-Conference Football Matchups

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Highlighted by home-and-home series with Mississippi State and OU VS KSTATE FOOTBALLVanderbilt of the Southeastern Conference, Kansas State announced today its future non-conference football games that have been finalized through the 2020 football season.

The full 2015 schedule, which was released this past fall, includes non-conference home games against South Dakota and Louisiana Tech and a trip back to San Antonio’s Alamodome to play UTSA.

“Working closely with Coach Snyder and Chief of Staff Clint Dowdle, we set out to achieve several primary goals in scheduling, including having as many early-season home games as possible and at least 11 FBS opponents on the schedule each season,” said Athletics Director John Currie. “We also want to attempt to include an open date during the regular season and continue to create opportunities to further our program and University on a national level while putting us in a solid position in regards to the new College Football Playoff system.”

Two of the three non-conference games for 2016 have been finalized as the Wildcats are slated to play Missouri State and Conference USA member Florida Atlantic at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.

With four conference home games on the slate for 2016, K-State is in search of one final home non-conference opponent so that it will meet its preferred seven games in Manhattan, Currie said.

The 2017 season will begin a home-and-home series against Vanderbilt as the K-State Nation will head to Nashville, while the Commodores will make a return trip to Manhattan in 2020. Other 2017 matchups include Central Arkansas and Charlotte, which in 2015 will officially join Conference USA as an FBS member and is coached by K-State graduate and former All-Big Eight defensive back Brad Lambert.

For the 2018, 2019 and 2020 seasons, K-State currently has two of three non-conference matchups finalized as it will welcome Mississippi State of the SEC to Manhattan in 2018 in addition to UTSA. The Wildcats will head to Starkville for the return game against Mississippi State in 2019 while also welcoming annual MAC contender Bowling Green to Manhattan. The 2020 slate currently features Vanderbilt’s return trip to Manhattan in addition to a visit from Buffalo of the MAC.

K-State, coming off a nine-win season in 2014, will begin spring practice April 1, and season tickets for an exciting seven-game 2015 home schedule will go on sale Monday.

Left to Right, Liza Narducci, Coach Melissa Sharp, and Sara Munson
Left to Right, Leza Narducci, Coach Melissa Sharp, and Sara Munson

to their school Friday evening.

The occasion was a 20-year reunion for the 1994-95 team that went 23-2, but the event also attracted other former players and people who followed the basketball program.

Head Coach Melissa Sharp noted some of those in attendance ranged from Leza Narducci and Adrian Wiley to Gretchen Schmoeckel , Dee Ivory, Kristin and Amber Crites. Stephanie Kimbrel and Sara Munson were among the numerous former players who first met in the school cafeteria and then watched the current Lady Jay basketball team defeat Topeka West 58-53.

One player who traveled from Houston, Texas for the reunion, was the starting point guard on the  1994-95 team Leza Narducci. Sharp  said it was emotional. “I haven’t seen Liza is quite a long time.” Sharp added, “She’s more than eager to come back and show her boys where she went to school and the success she had on the court, and hopes that it transfers to her own family.”

Her feeling on walking in the door to the reunion? “Happiness, glad to be back home.” Narducci was born and raised in Junction City.

She remembered her role as a coach on the floor.”Just keeping the team focused, motivated, and thinking and knowing that we could win every time we got out there.”
