Post 45 American Legion Tournament Friday Results

Three of the five scheduled games were able to be played Friday during the 2015 Junction City Post 45 Tournament at Rathert Stadium.

Due to rain the tournaments schedule was delayed nearly six hours, but tournament rathertofficials were able to get three of the five games played.

Manhattan defeated Topeka 10-8 in game one. Marion defeated Riley County 4-0 in game two and Topeka defeated Emporia 7-3 in game three.

The Junction City Blues will be in action Saturday afternoon and evening as they will play Marion at 4 p.m. and Paola at 7:30 p.m..

Pool play wraps up Saturday and Sunday will be the final games with the championship scheduled for 3:45 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

Moustakas Wins Final Spot in the All-Star Game

NEW YORK (AP) – Kansas City’s Mike Moustakas (moo-STAH’-kahs) and Carlos Martinez of the Cardinals have been chosen by fans for the final spots in the All-Star royalsgame.

Mouskakas joins six other Royals on the American League team after getting 19.3 million votes. He’s hitting .301.

Martinez pulled in 14.1 million votes to make it on the National League team. He is 10-3 overall and 7-1 with a 1.20 ERA in his last 10 starts.

Duffy pitches 6 sharp innings to lead Royals past Blue Jays

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Danny Duffy pitched six sharp innings to pick up his first victory in more than two months as the Kansas City Royals beat the Toronto Blue Jays 3-0 Friday night.kc royals

Duffy (3-4) shut down a Blue Jays offense, which leads the majors with 470 runs. He gave up four singles while walking three and hitting a batter to earn his first victory since beating Detroit on April 30.

The Royals have won six straight to improve to an American League-best 51-34.

Eric Hosmer went 4 for 4, his first four-hit game of the season and his eighth career game with at least four hits. Salvador Perez, Alex Rios and Alcides Escobar each had two hits and an RBI.

Marco Estrada (6-5) gave up a season-high nine hits and lost for the first time since May 27. The Blue Jays, 3-7 in July, dropped below .500 for the first time since June 8.

Moustakas is reinstated from the bereavement list

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Mike Moustakas has been reinstated from the bereavement list Friday and is in the Kansas City Royals’ lineup at third base and batting second against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Moustakas left Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Twins after five innings. He’s kc royalsmissed four games.

Moustakas, hitting .301 in 75 games, is one of four players competing for the final AL All-Star spot. Voting results will be announced shortly before game time.

To make room on the roster, infielder Cheslor Cuthbert, who had a hit in all four games he played with the Royals, has been optioned to Triple-A Omaha. The Royals went 4-0 with Cuthbert starting at third base.

Bill Snyder Named to Dodd Trophy Watch List

MANHATTAN, Kan. — Kansas State head coach Bill Snyder was one of 23 coaches nationally and four from the Big 12 Conference to be named to the preseason watch list for the 2015 Dodd Trophy, officials from the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation and Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl announced today.

The architect of the “greatest turnaround in the history of college football,” Snyder SNYDER 7-10enters his 24th season at K-State and in December will be just the fourth person in the history of college football to be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as an active coach.

A five-time national coach of the year honoree and seven-time conference coach of the year recipient, Snyder is the only two-time Dodd Trophy winner (1998, 2012) on the watch list and joins fellow Big 12 coaches Art Briles, Gary Patterson and Bob Stoops as candidates.

Snyder has compiled an amazing 187-94-1 record in his 23 years as the helm of the Wildcat program. He ranks 32nd all-time in victories among FBS coaches and continues to climb the ladder with each win.

The head coaches on the watch list represent programs with the highest ideals of leadership, scholarship and integrity on and off the field – the three pillars of legendary coach Bobby Dodd’s philosophy. Each of the coaches sits at the helm of programs with winning records, superior Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores and graduation rates, and a strong commitment to service within their communities.

Additional watch lists – adding to or narrowing the field – will be released throughout the fall, and the winner of the 2015 Dodd Trophy will be announced in Atlanta during Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl week. Starting in September, the Dodd Coach of the Week Award will also be presented weekly to the coach whose program embodies the award’s three pillars of scholarship, leadership and integrity, while also having success on the playing field during the previous week.

A very limited number of tickets remain for the 2015 season as Kansas State is closing in on another season sellout, which would run its consecutive streak of filling Bill Snyder Family Stadium to 27 straight games.

Fewer than 1,100 reserved tickets remain for the West Virginia game, while scattered singles and standing-room-only (NE hill) remain for all other home games. Only scattered singles remain for the Baylor game (No SRO available) due to Fort Riley Day activities.

K-State opens its 120th season of football on Saturday, September 5, as the Wildcats hosts South Dakota. The game, which is slated for a6:10 p.m., kickoff, will be shown world-wide on K-StateHD.TV beginning at 5:30 p.m., with the K-State Gameday preview show.

Rain Delays Post 45 Baseball Tournament

Friday mornings rain delayed the Post 45 American Legion Baseball Tournament Friday at Rathert Stadium.

According Derek Scott, Head Coach of the Junction City Blues Friday’s games wereRathert Field pushed back until 4 p.m. and the last two games scheduled for Friday will be played Saturday evening.

Friday’s schedule finds Manhattan taking on the Topeka Senators at 4 p.m. followed by Marion vs Riley County at 5:45 p.m. and Emporia vs Topeka Senators at 7:30 p.m., the remaining two games from Fridays schedule will move to the back half of Saturday’s schedule.

“Fortunately we kind of worked this stuff out before hand and came up with a couple of different scenarios that we could run with,” said Scott.

Junction City will now play two games Saturday against Paola at 4:00 p.m. before taking a game off and then playing again at 7:30 p.m. against Marion.

Friday’s delays are not expected to push back any of the final games on Sunday.

Blues Win Opener in Post 45 Invitational

The Junction City Blues lost a five run lead, but rallied for three runs in their final at bat in the seventh inning to defeat Riley County 11-9 in American Legion baseball at Rathert Field Thursday night.

The win came in the opening round of pool play in the Post 45 Invitational.

Blues coach Derek Scott noted leadoff hitter Dylan Collette walked to start the seventh for Junction City. “Bobby Khoury and Christian Ozores had a couple good hits to get us on the board there.”

Junction City will play Paola in the tournament Friday evening.

The other first round game in the tournament Thursday night saw Manhattan defeat Alma-Wabaunsee 11-1.

McCann Returns to K-State Baseball as Pitching Coach

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Sean McCann, a nationally recognized veteran pitching coach and recruiting coordinator as well as an original member of Brad Hill’s coaching staff at K-State, has returned to the Wildcat baseball staff, Hill announced today.

 

McCann replaces Josh Reynolds, who spent seven years on Hill’s coaching staff, including the last five as the pitching coach, before accepting an associate head coach and pitching coach position at Northwestern on July 2.

 

After a four-year absence from college athletics, McCann, who has 17 years of coaching experience, will oversee the development of the Wildcat pitching staff and assist in recruiting efforts.

 

Post 45 17U Tournament Starts Thursday Evening

The 2015 Post 45 17U Tournament gets underway at Rathert Field Thursday evening.

This year the tournament features eight teams split up into two pools. Pool A features rathertthe Junction City Blues, Paola, Marion and Riley County. Pool B features Emporia, Manhattan, Alma-Wabaunsee and the Topeka Senators.

Junction City kicks off the tournament against Riley County Thursday in a 5:30 p.m. first pitch. The second game Thursday puts Manhattan against Alma-Wabaunsee in a 7:45 p.m. first pitch.

Action picks back up again Friday with games scheduled all day. Junction City will play in the night cap Friday against Paola, first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m..

Teams will play there final pool play games on Saturday with Junction City taking on Marion in a 6:00 p.m. matchup.

The Championship round will be held Sunday with the 7th place game starting at 9:00 a.m. followed by the 5th place game at 11:15 a.m., the 3rd place game at 1:30 p.m. and the Championship game at 3:45 p.m. at Rathert Field.

12U Junction City Brigade at USSSA World Series

The 12U Junction City Brigade participated in the parade of teams at the Opening Ceremonies of the USSSA World Series in Branson, Missouri Wednesday.

That was preceded by a meeting with the Harlem Globe Trotters, and the traditional pin trading all of the teams.

Rainouts prevented the Brigade from playing so far, but they will play teams from Mississippi, Missouri, and Arkansas on Thursday.
