Billy Joel to Sing National Anthem at Game Three of World Series

2015 world seriesNEW YORK (AP) – There’s even more excitement in store for Game 3 of the World Series.

A spokesman for Billy Joel tells Newsday  the “Piano Man” will lead Citi Field in the national anthem prior to the game Friday night between the Mets and the Kansas City Royals.

The Mets have a long history with Joel.

This season, they played Joel’s “Piano Man” as a sing-along in the middle of the 8th inning break and sometimes played “New York State of Mind” after a Citi Field win.

Last week, Joel sang “Meet the Mets” and gave score updates from the NLCS’s Game 4 during a concert at Madison Square Garden.

Joel also sang the anthem during Game 1 of the 2000 World Series between the Mets and Yankees at Yankee Stadium.

K-State Football Weekly Press Conference

wildcat twoBill Snyder:

On holding up with the mental grind of the season…

“Well, you have to consider the options and there are really not any. Part of it is there are a lot of people that are involved in a program. So, there are a lot of people that certainly have some of the same emotions that I might. They are my responsibility. You have to devote your time to those things. It does not leave a whole lot of time for yourself, which is probably a good thing as well.”

On taking a lighter practice approach with injuries…

“Well, we are still reflecting on the schedule based on what the trainers are able to tell us about who might be available and when and how that would adjust the schedule that I visited with the media about yesterday. The intent may not remain the same, but the intent today was to practice and cut down the length of our practice, to practice tomorrow and cut down the length of our practice and take two days off before we start in on Saturday, which would equate to aMonday of a normal game week. That is still an advance as we speak, because of trying to work through of who we might get back and if so, what would give them the best practice opportunities as well.”

On Alex Delton’s progress…

“He intends and the trainers intend for him to practice this afternoon in a limited capacity.”

On frustration with starting 0-4 in conference…

“Well, I would not know how to judge it. Have I been as frustrated before? Perhaps not, but I cannot put a numerical value on it.”

On the most difficult aspect of losses…

“Well I do not think nor would I ever ask anyone to come to grips with it. The hardest part is just trying to continue to motivate young people and to do the very best that they possibly can, to have an emotional approach to it that is positive and one that identifies the determination that is necessary to become better in what we are doing, in what an individual is doing – myself and players. You know a lot of us, myself included, have not really been here before. So, it is a matter of having the answers of how to overcome the complexity and the difficulty of what has taken place. That is what I am trying to promote – is the ability to overcome that and do the things that we know are the right things to do to improve and get better. That is ongoing, but it has been that way for 20 years. I think that is still relevant in the situation that we are in right now. What other options are there? Other than trying to improve our capabilities and the things that we do and give it the best that you can. That is really all I can ask of them.”

Junior Quarterback Joe Hubener

On the offense…

“I think we are making positive steps, and I think we just need to put it together. We have shown success in the passing game in some of the early games and we just have to get that back. Now we are showing some success in the run game and we need to keep that as well.”

On the bye week…

“This is not where we want to be in the Big 12. This is not the projection we hoped for, but having a bye week gives us extra time to prepare for Baylor and to fix some of the mistakes that we have made in these first several games in Big 12 play. I think it is at a good time to reflect and to polish things up ourselves.”

On team moral …

“I think it is really good. The team is fired up, and I think we see this as an opportunity to improve ourselves as a team. To really bounce back and we have Baylor coming in ranked number two, that is an opportunity that is not something that we should shy away from. We know we have played with TCU and OSU, both good teams, and there is nothing to be afraid of with Baylor.”

Rain in KC Should be Mostly Over Before World Series Game

kcrKANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – The National Weather Service says it appears unlikely that rain in Kansas City will disrupt the first game of the World Series between the Kansas City Royals and New York Mets.

Meteorologist Mike July in Pleasant Hill, Missouri, says some drizzle might remain near the start of the evening game, but the system should move away shortly after the game begins.

After the game starts, there is a 50 percent chance of showers, but less than a tenth of an inch is forecast.

It will be chilly, with the high reaching 57 degrees before dropping to about 49 after sunset.

Mondesi May Have Chance to Make History

kcr twoIt will be 20-year-old Royals infielder Raul Mondesi Jr. rather than Mets shortstop Matt Reynolds who has the chance to make history in the World Series.

Mondesi was added to Kansas City’s roster and Reynolds was dropped from New York’s ahead of Game 1 on Tuesday night. That means Mondesi will have a chance to become the first player in big league history to make his debut in the World Series.

Reynolds has never played in a major league game, either. But he was left off the Mets’ 25-man roster to create space for infielder Juan Uribe, who has been out with a chest injury.

One of the Royals’ top prospects, Mondesi is the son of former big leaguer Raul Mondesi. He spent this season at Double-A Northwest Arkansas, hitting .243 with six homers and 33 RBIs.

Juan Uribe Added to World Series Roster by Mets

baseball imageKANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Infielder Juan Uribe has been added to the New York Mets’ World Series roster after recovering from a chest injury.

Uribe, who has not played since Sept. 25, takes the spot of backup shortstop Matt Reynolds, who was on the NL Championship Series roster but has never played in a major league game.

Uribe injured chest cartilage while making a diving stop on Sept. 20, then aggravated the injury on a swing while pinch hitting on Sept. 25.

He batted .219 with six homers in 44 games, playing second and third base after the Mets acquired him from Atlanta in late July.

Rosters were due Tuesday, nine hours ahead of the opener.

Volquez to start World Series opener for Royals

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Edinson Volquez will start the World Series opener for Kansas City, followed by Johnny Cueto in Game 2.

Yordano Ventura will start Game 3 at Citi Field on Friday, followed kc royalsby Chris Young in Game 4.

New York’s rotation opens with Matt Harvey, and Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard and Steven Matz follow.

Volquez was 13-9 with a 3.55 ERA during the regular season and 1-2 with a 4.32 ERA during three starts in the playoffs.

Andy Grammer to Perform National Anthem at World Series Game One

kcr twoNEW YORK (AP) – Pop singer-songwriter Andy Grammer will perform the national anthem at Game 1 of the World Series on Tuesday.

Major League Baseball announced Monday that the “Honey, I’m Good” singer will perform before the New York Mets take on the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.

The game will air live at 8:07 EST on Fox.

Grammer’s pop smash, “Honey, I’m Good,” became a multiplatinum hit this year and peaked at No. 9 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. He is currently competing on ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars.”
