Planned Power Outage for Grandview Plaza late Saturday night – early Sunday morning

Grandview Plaza City officials have been notified by Flint Hills Rural Electric about a planned power outage for that community from 11:45 p.m. Saturday, February 2nd until Sunday, February 3rd at 4 a.m.

Grandview Plaza City Superintendent Jerome Thomas stated Westar Energy is doing an upgrade to their substation on 8th Street in Junction City. “It’s a 3400 volt line. They’re doing some new poles. It’s going to be able to feed Grandview two different ways from what I’m understanding. So the power will be shut off to Grandview from 11:45 p.m. Saturday until 4 a.m. Sunday.”

Thomas noted to prepare for the time without electricity watch the weather, get some flashlights, if you have generators make sure they work, have plenty of blankets and possibly draw some water. Thomas stressed residents should not use candles.

Thomas indicated the electricity turnoff will not impact Junction City. “Westar notified me that it would just be Grandview Plaza and south of I-70 but they might be able to reroute some power there but it would only go to I-70. It will not go north.”

Thomas explained that Flint Hills Electric provides electric service to Grandview Plaza after purchasing electricity from Westar Energy.

Winter Carnival set for February 16th

The annual Winter Carnival sponsored by the Early Childhood Family Network will be Saturday, February 16th, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Shenk Gym at Junction City High School. Geared toward families with young children, the event will feature a variety of booths hosted by local organizations who serve early learners and their families. Each organization provides an activity or indoor carnival game for kids to play, with opportunities to win prizes.

Games are free of charge, though donations will be accepted to support Dorothy Bramlage Public Library’s book donation program, DBPL at DBPL: Donating Books to Promote Literacy. This book donation program puts books in the hands of community members, fostering a love of reading and thereby increasing literacy within the community and strengthening the community itself.

As children play the games at each Winter Carnival booth, representatives of the organizations at the booth are available to provide parents and caregivers with information about the organizations’ services. So families can enjoy the games and discover the resources and support that are available to them in the community.
