Blue Jays – Lady Jays Win Salina Central Invitational

small blue jayThe Junction City Blue Jays and Lady Jays both finished first in the Salina Central Invitational on Friday.

In the boys competition Junction City scored 97 points. Wichita Southeast finished second out of ten teams with 84 points.

For the Blue Jays, Juwan Bush won the 200 meter dash in 23.08 and the 400 meter dash in 50.27. His teammate Clyde King finished second in the 400 in 50.33.

The boys 4 x 400 relay team of Bush, King, Aaron Hamilton, and Ricardo Erans finished first in 3:25.05.

In the girls competition Junction City scored 95 and a half points, 18 points ahead of Manhattan.

For the Lady Jays the 4 x 100 relay team of Jacqui Moran, Raynell Wilson, Amaya Booker, and Ayi-Lissa Dotson captured first in 49.22. Also finishing in first place were Alana Kramer in the 300 meter hurdles in 48.41, and the 4 x 400 relay team of Lyric Holman, Deisjambra Bisio, Alana Kramer, and Myrissa Humphreys in 4:09.78.

Blue Jays Sweep Topeka West in Baseball

small blue jayThe Junction City Blue Jay baseball team improved their record to 10-8 with a doubleheader sweep of Topeka West in the capitol city.

Junction City won the first game 4-2 and the nightcap 9-5.

The Blue Jays travel to Hayden on Tuesday.

Blue Jays and Indians Split Baseball Doubleheader

small blue jayThe Manhattan Indians  ( 7-5 ) pounded out 16 hits to defeat the Junction City Blue Jays ( 8-8 ) 14-4 in five innings in game one of their baseball doubleheader at Rathert Field Tuesday.

But in game two it was a different story. Junction City won the second game 13-3 in five innings. Both games were called after five innings due to a 10-run rule.

On game two Blue Jay coach Drew Biery said Junction City got guys on base and they were then able to execute the offense. “Guys did the little things right, took the responsibility of making sure they got the signs right, and executed them.”

Biery added he was proud of the way the Blue Jays responded. “Getting run ruled is really not a fun thing, but coming back, taking care of business, and getting a win out of that is a pretty good split.

 

Blue Jays Finish First at Manhattan Invitational

small blue jayThere were only four schools represented in the Manhattan Invitational track meet on Friday at Bishop Stadium.

But the Junction City Blue Jays captured first and the Lady Jays tied for first in the team standings.

According to JCHS coach Randall Zimmerman said Junction City had some good individual results. Stephen Starks and Jawonnis Hinton finished one-two in the shotput for the Blue Jays. Kenson Henderson won the discus. The 4×100 relay captured first for both the boys and girls in the meet, and the girls and boys 4 x 400 relay teams finished first. Juwan Bush won the boys 400 meter dash, Aylissa Dotson the high jump, Traecy Freeman the pole vault, and Jaylene Brime the triple jump.

In the team scoring the Junction City Blue Jay boys finished with 113 points, followed by Manhattan with 91, Wichita Southeast 57, and Highland Park 10. In the girls team scoring Junction City and Manhattan tied for first with 90 points, followed by Wichita Southeast with 66 and Highland Park 5.

Blue Jays – Lady Jays Sweep Highland Park

small blue jayThe Junction City Blue Jays ( 7-5 ) overcame a slow start at the plate and went on to defeat Highland Park ( 0-8 ) by a score of 7-1 in game one of a doubleheader at Rathert Field on Thursday. In game two Junction City picked up a 17-2 win, with the game being called after four innings due to a 15-run rule.

Blue Jay coach Drew Biery said his team got a couple of balls in the air in the first inning of the first game, and them made some adjustments. “I was proud to see that. I challenged them on Wednesday to really stick to the approach and to buy into it and they did a really good job.”

Dylan Collette got the pitching win in game one, and Nate Johnson in game two.

The Blue Jays play at Seaman on Tuesday.

The Junction City Lady Jays swept Highland Park in softball in the capitol city on Thursday.

Junction City won by the scores of 22-0 and 21-3.  The Lady Jays are 4-8 on the season.

 

JCHS Sports Report

small blue jayThe Washburn Rural Junior Blues swept two baseball games from the Junction City Blue Jays in baseball at Rathert Field on Tuesday.

The final scores were 7-1 and 11-3.

The Junior Blues improved to 7-4 while Junction City fell to 5-5.

In softball Washburn Rural took game one of a doubleader against Junction City by the score of 6-4 and game two 8-3.

The teams played in Topeka.

Lady Jay Swimmer Qualifies for State

small blue jayA member of the Junction City Lady Jay swimming team has qualified for the 6A State Meet later this season.

On his Twitter feed the JCHS Athletic Director Matt Westerhaus reported that Kyndel McCloy qualified for state in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:15.11. She competed for the Lady Jays in a meet at Salina South.
