Blue Jays Advance to Regional Baseball Championship Game

small blue jayThe Junction City Blue Jays have advanced to the championship game of their Class 6A Regional Baseball Tournament.

The Blue Jays defeated Wichita East 8-4 in a first round game Wednesday afternoon.

Junction City is scheduled to play in the championship contest at 6 p.m. Wednesday evening ( tonight ) against the winner of the Haysville – Campus vs. Hutchinson contest.

Lady Jay Softball Season Ends

small blue jayThe Junction City Lady Jay softball team fell to Olathe Northwest 8-1 in the Class 6A Regional Tournament on Tuesday.

The teams played in Olathe.

Junction City finished the season with a record of 5-16.

Regional Baseball Postponed

small blue jayThe Class 6A regional baseball tournament involving the Junction City Blue Jays has been postponed one day.

Originally scheduled on Tuesday, it will now be played Wednesday at Plagens – Carpenter Stadium on 63rd Street in Wichita.

Junction City will play Wichita East at two p.m.  The other first round game will send Haysville – Campus against Hutchinson at four p.m. The winners will play for the championship at six p.m. on Wednesday.

Lady Jays to Meet Olathe Northwest in Regional Softball Tournament

small blue jayThe Junction City Lady Jays ( 5-15 ) will play Olathe Northwest ( 19-1 ) in the first round of a Class 6A Softball Regional Tournament on Tuesday in Olathe. The game will be played at 4:30 p.m.

The other half of the bracket will match Lawrence Free State ( 11-9 ) against Manhattan ( 11-9 ) at 3 p.m.

The championship game will be played at 6 p.m.

The Class 6A State Softball Tournament is at Overland Park Blue Valley West High School.

Blue Jays Open Regional Baseball Tournament Play Tuesday

small blue jayThe Junction City Blue Jays ( 11-9 ) will play Wichita East ( 6-14 ) in the first round of a Class 6A Regional Baseball Tournament on Tuesday, May 17. The game will be played at 2 p.m. Plagens-Carpenter Stadium on 63rd Street between Broadway and Seneca in Wichita.

The other side of the bracket matches the host school for the tournament, Wichita Haysville Campus ( 13-7 ) against Hutchinson ( 4-16 ). Those teams will play at 4 p.m. Tuesday. The winners will advance to the championship game at 6 p.m.

The winner of the regional tournamant will advance to the Class 6A State Tournament, which is scheduled May 26-27 in Lawrence at Hoglund Stadium at the University of Kansas.

Lady Jays Lose to Manhattan in Softball

small blue jayThe Manhattan Indians swept a doubleheader from the Junction City Lady Jays in softball at the Twin Oaks complex in Manhattan on Friday.

Manhattan won the first game 13-0 and the second contest 11-1. Both games were called after five innings due to a 10-run rule.

Junction City fell to 5-15 on the season.

Lady Jays Second – Blue Jays Third at Centennial League Track Meet

small blue jayThe Junction City Lady Jay track team finished second in the Centennial League meet at Bishop Stadium in Manhattan on Thursday.

Lyric Holman won the 400 meter dash in 1:00.04 and finished second in the 200 meter dash in 26.43. Myrissa Humphreys captured first place in the 800 meter run in 2:28.93. And the Lady Jay 4 x 800 relay team of Humphreys, Deisjambra Bisio, Briona Jenson, and Sully Soto finished first in 10:12.63. Ayi-lissa Dotson finished second for Junction City in the Long Jump with a leap of 16’8 and 1/4 inches. Emporia won the team title with 145 points while Junction City had 126 points.

The Blue Jay boys finished third in their portion of the meet with 100 points, behind Shawnee Heights with 115 and 1/3, and Washburn Rural with 110 and 1/3.

In the individual competition Tamarche Mason of Junction City won the 200 meter dash in 22.56, Juwan Bush was second in the 400 meter dash in 49.64, the 4 x 100 relay team of Dai-Jon Lopez, Charles Winchester, Ian Sanchez, and Tamarche Mason finished first in 43.20, and Jaylene Brime captured first place in the Triple Jump with a mark of 43’11”.

Blue Jays – Lady Jays Split Doubleheaders

small blue jayThe Junction City Blue Jay baseball team split two games with Hayden in Topeka on Tuesday.

The Blue Jays won the opener 3-2 and lost the nightcap 13-3.

Junction City is 11-9 on the season.

Lady Jay softball split two games with Hayden on Senior Day at Cleary Field.

Junction City won the opener 10-8 and Hayden took the nightcap 3-1.

Softball – Baseball Teams to Play Hayden

small blue jayThe Junction City Lady Jay softball team will host Hayden in a doubleheader at Cleary Field on Tuesday. The first game begins at 4 p.m.

That opening contest will be broadcast on the Talk of JC, KJCK AM. Brian Field will call the play by play.

The Blue Jay baseball team will play a doubleheader at Hayden on Tuesday, beginning at 3:30 p.m.

 

 

Angeleau Scott Qualifies for 6A State Tennis Tournament

small blue jayThe Blue Jay tennis team qualified one of its singles players for the state tennis tournament this past Saturday.

Angeleau Scott started the tennis tournament as the 7th seed and needed to beat a higher seed to have a chance to repeat as a state qualifier.  After cruising through his first round 6-0, 6-0 over Man Huynh from Wichita Southeast, Scott got his first chance at state playing against Matt Gonazales, the eventual regional champion from Topeka High.   After dropping the first set 6-2, Scott played the second set close and had a chance to send it to a third set, before Gonazales closed out the set 7-5 giving Scott his first loss.

Scott next played Carter Nelson from Manhattan in the round to determine who would make it past the regional tournament.  Scott led much of the first set before Nelson came back to win the first set in a tiebreaker.  Scott then went on to win two hard fought sets against Nelson, 6-4, 6-3 clinching a trip to state.

Scott then played for 5th place against Chris Gernon Topeka High, but dropped the match 6-4,6-1.  Scott advances to the state tennis tournament with a 20-12 record in singles.  The state tennis meet will be held this Friday and Saturday at Prairie Village-Harmon Park Tennis Complex in Prairie Village, KS.
