Blue Jays Improve to 7-1

small-blue-jayThe Junction City Blue Jays ( 7-1 )  rallied from a 10-7 halftime deficit to defeat the Seaman Vikings ( 6-2 ) 20-13 Friday night in Topeka.

Junction City got on the board on their opening drive when quarterback  Ryan Hennington hit tight end Alonzo Range on a 19-yard touchdown pass play. After Seaman countered with a drive ending in a field goal the defenses took over. There was only one more scoring play in the first half when the Vikings culminated a drive with a one-yard touchdown run by quarterback Dalton Cowan.

In the third quarter the Blue Jays put two touchdowns on the board…one on a two-yard touchdown run by Tim Bell and the other a one yard run by Hennington. But Seaman made another charge in the fourth quarter with a 20-yard field goal by Walker Bassett. In the final 1:19 of the ballgame the Vikings had the ball one final time but could not score.

Blue Jays Roll Past Gateway Stem

small-blue-jayRyan Hennington ran for three touchdowns as the Junction City Blue Jays cruised to a 43-14 win over the Gateway Stem Jaguars of St. Louis, Missouri on a neutral field in Lansing, Kansas.

The Blue Jays got on the board with 5:03 remaining in the first quarter with a 12-yard touchdown run by Hennington and never trailed in the ballgame. The two touchdowns for Gateway Stem were scored in the fourth quarter after the Blue Jays had built up a 43-0 lead. There was a running clock for the entire fourth quarter.

Blue Jay coach Randall Zimmerman praised the Jaguars, saying they were a good football team, and the Blue Jays did some nice things. “The only thing I was disappointed in the first half, we have a tough time just making plays. We want to create plays. That git us in trouble offensively, that got us in trouble defensively a little bit, and special team-wise as well as well. But once we got settled in and got going, saw some really things from our kids.”

The Blue Jays, 6-1, play at Topeka Seaman next Friday. Gateway Stem fell to 6-3 with the loss.
