Blue Jays – Lady Jay track teams fare well at Friday invitational

The Junction City Blue Jay boys and girls track teams turned in some strong performances at the Bob Camien-Claudia Welch Invitational meet Friday at Seaman High School in Topeka.

For the Lady Jays Keiana Newman won the 100 meter hurdles in 14.64 and the 300 meter hurdles in 48.21. Savannah Adams captured first place in the shot put with a throw of 41’4.25″ and Sherrie Jones was second with a throw of 39’11.50.” Adams also finished second in the discus with throw of 126’7.” The Lady Jays finished sixth in the team competition with 55.5 points.

For the Blue Jays the 4×100 relay team of Javontez Brime, Marcello Bussey, Aaron Hamilton and David Giddens finished first in 43.25, Juan Tovar was second in the 800 meter run in 1:59.50 and seventh in the 1600 meter run in 4:35.4.  Marcello Bussey was fourth in the 400 meter dash in 51.84, Antonio Cooper fourth in the discus with a throw of 152’5,” and third in the shot put with a throw of 50’10.75.” Jesse Newson also finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 49’2.75.” The Blue Jay boys finished fifth in the team competition with 45 points.

There were 26 schools represented with teams in the meet. On the boys side Bishop Carroll captured first place with 78.5 points while in the girls team competition Lawrence finished first with 103 points.

 

 

Lady Jays drop two games in softball

The Junction City Lady Jays fell to Emporia in softball on Friday at Cleary Field 10-0 in five innings and 7-1. The losses dropped Junction City to 4-12 on the season.

Junction City will host Washburn Rural in a doubleheader at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Blue Jay singles players lead team to runner-up finish

The Junction City Blue Jay tennis team finished second in the six-team JCHS Invitational on Saturday.

In the top singles flight Kody Westerhaus finished first by going 5-0. Hayden Diestelkamp finished third as well in the one singles bracket with a 2-3 record. Aaron Reutzel competed in the two singles bracket and went 4-1 to finish in second place.

The doubles team of Mason Richards Calen Boller in the top doubles flight and Albert Caba and Erik Mitchell in the second doubles flight each picked up one win on the day.

Manhattan finished first with 16 points followed by Junction City and Topeka with 11, Lawrence Free State with 9, Salina South 5 and Abilene 3.

The Blue Jay tennis team goes to the Topeka High Invitational on Monday. Matches begin at 9 a.m. at the Kossover Tennis Center.

JCHS Track results at KU Relays

The Junction City Blue Jays and Lady Jays have athletes competing at the KU Relays Friday and Saturday.

Coach Randall Zimmerman noted that on Friday morning in the girls competition Kiana Newman false-started in the 100 High Hurdles but she finished 17th in the 300 Hurdles in 47.74. Sherrie Jones finished 11th in the Shot Put with a throw of 37’8′ and Savannah Adams 19th in the Shot Put with a throw of 36.’

In the boys competition Juan Tovar finished 32nd in the 800 Meters in 2:06.

Blue Jay baseball schedule changes

The Junction City Blue Jay varsity baseball doubleheader originally scheduled for Rathert Field, Tuesday April 23rd, is being moved to Hayden High School in Topeka that same day. The first game will begin at 3 p.m.

The junior varsity baseball games between Junction City and Hayden that had been scheduled on the 23rd at Hayden have been moved back one day to Wednesday, April 24th, at 3 p.m. at Hayden.

The changes in scheduling were necessary due to the ongoing field improvement work at Rathert Field. That is still a work in progress.

Lady Jay softball sweeps two from Highland Park

The Junction CIty Lady Jay softball team picked up two wins over Highland Park Wednesday evening in Topeka. Blue Jay Athletics Twitter provided the information including a 14-0 score in favor of Junction City in game two.

The Lady Jays are 4-6 on the season.

Blue Jay baseball sweeps Highland Park

The Junction City Blue Jay baseball team swept Highland Park Tuesday in Topeka.

According to Blue Jay Athletics Twitter, Junction City scored 10 runs in the top of the first inning in game one and rolled on to a 19-2 win. The Blue Jays won game two 15-0.

Junction City improved to 9-3 on the season.
