Army spokesman Col. Patrick R. Seiber stated that Grigsby had been relieved of command of the 1st Infantry Division.

In Junction City, adjacent to Fort Riley, JC Post obtained reaction.

John Montgomery, Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army, stated, “I know nothing about the specifics of the firing. Grigsby has been a friend since he’s been here. I think he’s, from my perspective at least, has done a good job and I’m very sorry for whatever it is that has occurred that has led to the decision of his firing.”

John Seitz, Director of the Military Affairs Council of the Junction City Area Chamber of Commerce, said, “My reaction is I’m totally shocked. I don’t know that I’ve seen a better leader who is more respected or admired by his subordinates than Grigsby, so I don’t know what it is.”

Seiber said a replacement will be named in the coming days.
