Robert “Bob” James Quinn, 74 of rural Chapman, KS, passed away on October 10, 2019 at his home under the care of Dickinson County Hospice.
He was born November 8, 1944 in Clifton, South Carolina to Robert “Ted” F. and Geneva M. (Altom) Quinn. Bob grew up in Clifton, SC and graduated from Cowpens High School. In 1965, at the age of 19 years, he was drafted in the United States Army and served his country for 20 years. He served in Vietnam from 1966 through 1967 and earned two Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars among other medals. After returning from his tour in Vietnam, he married Sharon M. Williams on December 30, 1967 in Spartanburg, SC. Bob and Sharon raised their three children, Robert James, II, Jason Timothy, and Samantha S. Quinn. His service took him and his family around the world including multiple bases in the United States and two tours in Germany. Bob served honorably and with distinction as he did with everything else in his life. He retired September 30, 1985 at the rank of Sergeant First Class.
After retirement he settled in Kansas and spent his retirement years hunting, fishing and his hobbies of photography, woodworking, military history, gunsmithing. But what brought him the most enjoyment was time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon of the home; sons, Robert James (Jeannie) of Purcellville, VA and Jason Timothy (Annamarie) of Albuquerque, NM; daughter Samantha S. (Shawn Weber) Quinn of Aurora, CO; twelve grandchildren; sisters, Carol Ann White, Lucille Adams, of Inman, SC, Hoyt Loretta Cheatwood and brother, Samuel C. Quinn, both of Boiling Spring, SC.
Visitation will be Monday, October 14 from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. and funeral service will be Tuesday, October 15 at 10:30 a.m. Both services will be at Lyona UMC, 1850 Wolf Rd, Junction City, KS. Pastors Kris Brinlee and Claudia Bakely officiating.
