Blue Jays roll to third win of the season

The Junction City Blue Jays scored on a 33-yard touchdown pass play from Andrew Khoury to Jo Jo Nieves and a 47-yard punt return for a touchdown by Nieves to take early control against the Topeka West Chargers at Al Simpler Stadium. Junction City went on to defeat the Chargers on Tribute to the Troops Night 41-0.

Despite the shutout there is plenty of room for improvement for the Blue Jays who sputtered at times in the ballgame. Coach Randall Zimmerman said he was happy for the Blue Jays, who are 3-0 overall and 2-0 in Centennial League play, But the coach added the team has a lot to work on. “We did not play at our best, we did not. I don’t think we moved forward from a week ago.”

Junction City will play a 3-0 Topeka High football team Thursday evening at Hummer Sports Park in the capitol city. Topeka High defeated Highland Park 60-8 Friday night.
