Pawnee Mental Health Services announces Deihl Family Grant

The Deihl Community Grants Program in association with the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation has awarded Pawnee Mental Health Services a grant totaling $24,930.

Forty-eight children were removed from their homes in Riley County in fiscal year 19. Sixty-eight Riley County children are currently in out of home placement. Those kinds of experiences are traumatizing to children and their families. Pawnee said another area of concern related to traumatic experiences is that Riley County had 183 Protection from Abuse filings, 174 Protection from Stalking Orders, and 52 reported incidents of rape in 2017.

The Deihl Family grant provides Pawnee Mental Health Services the ability to train and certify all eligible Pawnee therapists in the City of Manhattan and Riley County in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Pawnee therapists will then be able to meet the basic mental health needs of children, adolescents and adults in the community who have trauma-related mental and behavioral health disorders and to reduce the need to refer these individuals out of the community to higher levels of care.
