A semi-truck traveling eastbound on Interstate 70 between mile markers 295 and 296 on the south side of Junction City jackknifed and wound up in the median during an early Sunday morning thunderstorm. No one was injured.
According to Geary County Emergency Management Director Garry Berges a fuel tank on the vehicle was ruptured.
One lane of the interstate was closed to traffic both eastbound and westbound for about one hour following the accident.
There were two waves of thunderstorm activity. In the three and four o’clock hours there was extensive lightning. A short time later a second storm cell moved through and a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Geary County and parts of Dickinson, Clay and Riley County. The storm system eventually moved off to the east.
