The annual Geary County 4-H project and livestock auction is set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday. That will be preceded by the 4-H Barbecue and watermelon feed at the fairgrounds on South Spring Valley Road.
Extension Agent Chuck Otte said there will be 44 head of livestock and 37 projects going through the sale. The total of 44 head of livestock is just two down from one year ago. “We’ve got all four of the grand champion market animals are being sold and we’ve got one grand champion project being sold.”
The 4-H pork barbecue will run from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. The cost of a meal is $8 and that includes a BBQ pork sandwich, baked beans, chips, fresh vegetables and cookies. The watermelon will be complimentary of Junction City area banks. You can purchase a sandwich only at the barbecue for $4. Proceeds will benefit the Geary County 4-H Council, which funds local 4-Her’s and 4-H activities throughout the county.
