Rain has slowed the wheat harvest in Geary County.
Up until Thursday there were good crop yields but Extension Agent Chuck Otte said now it needs to dry out. “We really need probably about another week of good dry weather to finish up wheat harvest. If it would not have rained we would probably be wrapping up by Sunday or Monday, but now it’s going to take awhile.”
Otte explained normally farm producers shoot for 60-bushels per acre with their crops, but he has heard of yields of over 80 bushels per acre this year in the county.
