The 1978 Heisman Trophy winner from Oklahoma and former overall number one NFL draft pick, Billy Sims. stopped in Junction City Saturday at the Billy Sims Barbecue outlet at 316 West 6th Street. The establishment is part of a chain of restaurants co-founded by Sims.

A good friend of mine named Jeff Jackson who’s from Kansas City. It was kind of his idea, something I didn’t think was going to work, and got the right people on board and a great supporting cast just like in football. If it wasn’t for the guys up front I wouldn’t have won the Heisman Trophy.

Sims signed autographs and posed for pictures with a long line of fans waiting for the opportunity to meet the former OU and Detroit Lion player. He noted that there are approximately 50 outlets in the chain that has been in existence for about 15 years.
