Sheriff’s Department gets new flat-bottom boat for use at Milford Lake

The Geary County Sheriff’s Department has already put a new flat bottom boat purchased with asset forfeiture funds to good use.

During a recent town hall meeting, Sheriff Daniel Jackson, noted shortly after he was sworn into office he learned the Department was lacking in the ability to conduct flood rescues or evacuations. They did not possess a flat bottom boat. “Well with everything going on at the lake we knew this was something we needed to jump on quickly.”

The Department confirmed on Tuesday of this week authorities used the boat to help a stranded person on a jet ski prior to the arrival of a thunderstorm, and it has also been deployed on a couple of other occurrences for medical emergencies on the lake.  Since it was purchased with asset forfeiture funds the boat did not cost local taxpayers any money.
