It may be July before combines are in the field cutting wheat in Geary County this year.

Extension Agent Chuck Otte said by now producers are normally well into the harvest or near the end of it. “Last year we were very early with it so we normally expect anymore by the 15th, 20th of June we’re going to be cutting wheat. So this year there’s not one wheat head cut yet because it’s simply too green.”

Otte estimated it could be close to the first of July before the harvest begins in the county.
