Commissioner Fitzgerald will not seek reelection

Commissioner Phyllis Fitzgerald ( R )

Junction City Commissioner Phyllis Fitzgerald has decided not to seek reelection to another term on the governing body.

She cites the need to spend more time with her family as the reason. “There are some changes in my family. One of my children is moving really closer to me and expecting a child later in the year. Family would like me to be a little more available for them, so family is my main reason.”

Fitzgerald said she loved being a city commissioner and the community. “All of the things I’m very passionate about I will continue to do those things whether I’m an elected official or a citizen here in Junction City, Kansas.” Fitzgerald is well known for her cleanup and beautification efforts in the community.

She was elected to the city commission in 2015 and served as mayor in 2017.

The filing deadline for candidates seeking election to the commission is noon next Monday, June 3rd.
