The JCPD is reporting the arrest of 28-year old Cody James Sweigart and 31-year old Amanda Joy Bushue both of Topeka on multiple counts including Aggravated Assault on LEO, Flee or Attempt to Elude LEO by Engaging in Reckless Driving, Interference with LEO, Criminal Possession of Weapon by Felon, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Stolen Property and Possession of Marijuana. The arrests occurred after law enforcement pursued the suspects in Geary, Riley and Dickinson counties at speeds ranging from 50 up to 115 miles per hour. At one point the pursuit went into Riley County and then back through Junction City up 6th Street past the movie theater, west onto U.S. 77 and back south to I-70. Later officers pursued the suspect’s silver Nissan onto Marshall Street in Chapman and through that community before going back onto rural roads in Dickinson and Geary Counties before going north on U.S. where a tire on the suspect’s vehicle began smoking and the chase eventually came to an end.
Numerous law enforcement authorities assisted in pursuing and apprehending the two suspects. No injuries were reported.
