Junction City and Geary County storm recovery under way

Geary County Emergency Management Director Garry Berges reported Tuesday morning that Florence Road in the eastern part of the county is cklosed on the west end off of Lower McDowell due to a large fallen tree and water across the roadway. Access is available on the other side.

The area was saturated with heavy rain Monday and again early Tuesday morning.

In Junction City the Public Works Director, Ray Ibarra noted that there were a few trees knocked down, and a lot of leaves scattered which will require some storm drainage cleanup. Ibarra said the traffic signal at 18th and Washington had issues from the storm. “Currently that traffic signal is now in operation as a flashing red light so it’s a four-way stop. Motorists need to be cognizant of that and understand that they need to stop at the intersection.” Ibarra is hopeful repairs can be completed and the signal restored to normal service by mid-afternoon.
