Donald M. Janssen, 86, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2019 at the Salina Presbyterian Manor. He was born January 2, 1933 at their then farm home north of Claflin, Kansas to Lena (Lubinus) and Oren H Janssen. The family moved to rural Solomon in 1938. Don was inducted into the Army April 3, 1953. After completing basic training at Ft. Riley, Ks, he was sent to Augsberg Germany. He was discharged at Ft. Knox, Kentucky in 1955. Don married Janice Alley at Niles, Ks. in 1957. He worked in construction as a bricklayer working on many area schools, brick veneering homes and building fireplaces in the local neighborhood and surrounding area. He spent his final 40 years farming and ranching.
Survivors are his spouse, Janice, daughter Cheril Geist, Grandaughter Adrian Hettenbach (Matt) GreatGrandaughter Allison Hettenbach, brother Eldon (Kat) Janssen (Darlene), nieces and nephews. He was preceeded in death by his parents, brothers Harold Janssen and Bernard Janssen and son in law Paul Geist.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at Carlson-Becker Funeral Home in Solomon Kansas. Visitation will be held Monday, May 6, 2019 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the funeral home in Solomon.
Memorials may be made to the Solomon Pre School, Presbyterian Manor of Salina, or Hospice of Salina in care of the funeral home.
