County would set the salary for a new sheriff

The Geary County Commission, per a county HR policy will set the salary for the new sheriff once one is selected to fill the current vacancy created by the resignation of Tony Wolf following his convictions on a felony count of Theft and a misdemeanor count of Misuse of Public Funds.

Geary County Commission Chairman Charles Stimatze

Commission Chair Charles Stimatze provided a release on Monday stating that the commission acknowledges that the sheriff has resigned. “When a new sheriff is appointed by the governor, pursuant to the Human Resources Policy 30.08, the Geary County Board of County Commissioners will examine the qualifications of the newly appointed sheriff and set a salary commensurate with those qualifications.

A salary study for county employees is currently under way. Stimatze said it would be completed in June.

Once that is done the commission could make any adjustments in the sheriff’s salary, if that is necessary.

The county’s Republican Central Committee will conduct a nominating convention for the sheriff’s vacancy this Saturday at 10 a.m. at the 4-H/Senior Center. They will make a recommendation on a new sheriff to the governor.
