There will be a presentation on Thursday, April 11th from 2-3:30 p.m. at the Junction City Athletic Training Center, 935 East 4th Street. Those attending can hear information on Parkinson’s Disease and what can be done to deal with it.

Michelle Haub, Dr. Matt Floersch and Bridget Larkin from Meadowlark will be in attendance, and there will be information on the Rock Solid Boxing program which is designed to help people with Parkinson’s Disease.

New coaches Rick Bazan and Bob Bramlage will host the free event.

During a presentation to the JC Breakfast Optimist Club on Wednesday, Michelle Haub explained that Parkinson’s Disease is a progressive, degenerative disease that can afflict people as early as 29 years of age. However, the average age is 62. Haub told club members “that there is often a familial link through genetics and / or in some cases environmental triggers like being exposed to chemical pesticides” as an example. “Men are one and a half times more likely to contract the disease.”

Haub noted some things a person can do for themselves includes first getting evaluated. Recommendations are often made to get appropriate medications as determined by a medical doctor and / or neurologist and then exercise, exercise, exercise. That is where the program “Rock Solid Boxing” can help. Clients are taught proper stance, ways to deal with balance and breathing as well as voice acceleration, body movement, voice acceleration, how to fall and how to have fun while exercising.  These strategies can regenerate parts of the brain and put on the pause button to the advancement of Parkinson’s Disease in many cases,
