There are plans for a new traffic roundabout at the intersection of McFarland Drive and Eisenhower Drive in Junction City. That site is adjacent to the Fifth Street Playground Park.
A member of the Quality Play for All Committee, Kendall Schoenrock, pointed to a new high school that will be located on the west side of town, and noted that the center point of the city is moving west. He feels there is an opportunity with the roundabout. “Specifically to be one of the first things if someone is new to the region or new to Junction City if they’re coming down to the business district on Sixth Street and they’re coming off of US 77 that roundabout would be a really nice introduction to Junction City.”
Schoenrock feels there is an opportunity to put something in the middle of the roundabout such as a nice piece of art or something significant and meaningful for the community.”And I think this is the time that we should start to explore what that looks like,” referring to what should go inside the roundabout.
Schoenrock wants to hear ideas on what the community would like to see in the roundabout. In addition to the traffic improvement the Fifth Street Park is being improved and a new walking trail will be installed in that area.
