Mother nature forces delay on Fifth Street Park project

The winter ice and snow has pushed back the completion of Phase I of improvements to the Fifth Street Park in Junction City. The grand opening was scheduled for March 2nd but will now be moved back to later in the spring.

The big job remaining to be done is the installation of artificial turf.

Quality Play for All Committee spokesman Kendall Schoenrock stated organizers are kind of in a holding pattern right now, “waiting to hear when the turf company is going to be able to get us on their schedule, when the temperature is going to be warm enough for the glue to correctly stick and make sure we’re not going to have any issues with the turf. ”

Long term this will be a five-phase project with future improvements ranging from a basketball court to a stage and upgraded parking.
